I Hate Bunko!

Ok so it's Bunko night tonight. I have a wonderful set of friends to hang with and we always have a great time together but I am over the whole Bunko thing....roll the dice....count....roll the dice
Basically I am bored to death! I don't want to give up my girls night out with the group, but I want to play something else....like TEXAS HOLD'EM!!!
Problem is: They all say it is too complicated to learn.....help!!!

We used to play Pokeno - that was a lot of fun - it might be a nice transition for them and something different for you to play.

A group of my husband's former co-workers would get together to play Bunco each month. We did this for a long time - like a couple years. I was so sick of the game by the time we dropped out.

YES YES YES!!! I was going to suggest Left Center Right. You can get it at Toys R Us for like 5 bucks! It is simple to play and it gets roudy! As in loud not like people losing their clothes or anything. We always had the BEST time playing this at our friend's house!

I am like your friends....I don't like many card games at all because I find them all to difficult to learn. Too many rules etc. I love simple games and Left Center Right is a really fun one and it still involves dice which your friends might like. I also suggest Racko, Taboo, or Scattergories.

For LCR, we substitute quarters for the chips that come with the game.

You can find Pokeno boards on Amazon. We would play however many rounds that there were people and each person would bring a gift - the winner got to pick a gift from the pile. Our last round would be a blackout - the winner won the hostess gift which was a higher priced gift and couldn't be stolen because we would then begin speed rounds and gifts could be stolen White Elephant style.


Description of Pokeno:

Includes 12 boards and a large number of poker-style chips (no cards, however). Paraphrased from the box:

A game that is a combination of the two games known as Poker and Keno (or Lotto), with features that make it more interesting and exciting than either.

Each player, except the dealer, is given a board and some counters. If there are no more players than boards, the dealer may also play if desired. The dealer or "caller" is furnished with an ordinary deck of 52 playing cards, shuffles them, and turns over the top one calling it out. Each player with that space on their board covers it with a counter. The dealer continues turning over cards until someone wins by having a complete row of five scored, either horizontally or vertically. The player who wins becomes the next dealer.

Several scoring methods are suggested, such as collecting all counters lying on other boards. Or, continue playing until everyone has a line of five, then scoring via the rank of poker hands - the boards are arranged so that each line vertically and horizontally represents every different poker hand, ranging from a "straight flush" to "a pair".

I have been playing Bunco with the same group of woman for almost 10 years now. I have since moved out of the community so its my monthly chance to see everyone and catch up on the gossip.

The yearly Christmas party is at my house next week. I love Bunco. Anything more complicated, we wouldn't be able to eat, drink, gossip and play at the same time.

For LCR, we substitute quarters for the chips that come with the game.

We do dollars - however, we end up playing only a few rounds, so it comes out about the same as bunco ($10). We're usually eating and drinking for about 2 hours before we get around to playing anything (Friday nights).

I play Bunco and it is always a hoot and a half. Of course there are Margarita's involved and if there are jello shooters!

A cool game we have played at family get togethers is Pit. It is like a home version of the Stock Market where each person has a set of commodities and you trade until someone "corners the market" on a specific one.

Do you play for $$? My group members (not subs) pay $11 each month to play - $12 goes to a perfect attendance prize, and $20 is carried over for year end; the rest is paid out that night, $40 most buncos, $30 most wins, $20 most baby buncos, $10 most losses. I have a spreadsheet, and keep tracks of wins, etc. each month until December then at the Bunco Christmas party - whoo hoo, one girl went home with over $200 on Monday night!

The lady who hosted got a Rent-A-Santa to knock on the door, come in, and pass out presents to those who sat on Santa's lap!
There were margaritas, buttery nipple shots, and lots of other adult beverages. We played dirty santa and it got pretty wild. Now, no one got too wild, but I have to say that I would much rather do that once a month than play the dice!
I think what bothers me about Bunko is that there is no skill involved. Either I want to play something that involves some sort of skill, or I just want to drink and be merry.

When we play it is more than just rolling the dice. We eat and drink, get loud and abnoxious, listen to music and sometimes dance to it. There is one person who comes who is so competitive and she is funny to watch because she will sing to the music, stand up and dance and yell at the dice and other people. And let me tell you, the Fuzzy Dice usually ends up down someone's shirt during the night cause she doesn't want to give it up.
