Ralph has been with us for sixteen years this week. His owner died right before Christmas and I took the three inches of RALPH home with us. Ralphie was our neighbor and he was so proud of how much this Ivy grew. Well Ralphie has been around the living room ceiling a few times and then I had to cut him back and he did this a few years back and he grew back...

Well when Hubby was in the hospital I neglected to water Ralph and he was very thirsty. So he sort of left the world again......I cut off the ends of the good parts and put it in a clear vase of water in the bathroom counter. I noticed that he has some long feelers of roots........I hope that this will be enough to keep him going. The main plant didnt' do as well.......anyone ever do this before and any hints.??????????

The main plant has passed on to better dirt. No sign of life in that one but the clippings are doing great still...Keeping my fingers crossed

Marie, sounds like you did everything you could...I hope Ralphie makes it. keep us updated.

I am so not good with plants
but wanted to add that I hope Ralph recovers :wizard:

How is the soil that he is planted in?
Do you give him fertilizer? Maybe you can add in some fertilizer sticks.

You did exactly right. You can root Ralph's cuttings, and should have some wonderful "reincarnations" of the ol' boy. Just pot them up in regular potting soil, don't fertilize until you see some new growth on the plant itself, then fertilize according to directions on fertilizer. Regular watering, well-drained soil, and bright indirect sunlight should make the little "Ralphlets" perfectly happy. I wouldn't hold out too much hope for the original plant if it looks that bad, but if you give it a little water, it may surprise you.

can you imagine little Ralphettes coming into this world......

I would be so happy.....

One year when our oldest granddaughter was a kindergarten kid at a Catholic school.......this was around Easter time. She very seriously one year asked about Ralphie........She said .....he died didnt he. And I said yes .......she then said he went to heaven didnt' he......and I said YES.....and she then as serious as could be said

and he came back as a plant......must of been the second coming of Ralphie
