I had an awful day at school......

Everything just seemed to go wrong today The classroom teacher was out on a professional day and the sub never showed up. the Bilingual ed teacher who comes and works with us in the a.m. was 1/2 hour late, the playground was too icy so we had indoor recess( picture 21 kindergarteners wound up because it's 2 1/2 weeks before Christmas, plus it's snowing...) one of my kindergarteners tried to choke another child at lunch, the buses were 20 minutes late at dismissal because of the snow, and just as i was leaving a parent called wanting to discuss a problem her son was having . Luckily my union voted in a special "sub pay" ammendment to our contract. When the classroom teacher is out, I am the sub for her, and the school provides a sub for me. Because the sub for me never showed up I get paid an extra stipend, thanks to our contract, but boy, I earned every penny! Calgon take me away

I'm sorry you had a bad day but boy are you lucky to get sub pay! We have to sub and dont get any more for it. I am the only Sp. Ed. Parapro who works for 2 teachers so I still have to do my job while I sub in the other class if one teacher is out. Hope its better tomorrow. I cant imagine all those little ones and no recess.

Snuggles- We have a great union for us paras- we got extra sub pay added last year for when the classroom teacher is out and no sub is provided-that way you get paid for the 2 jobs you are doing-your's and the teacher's.
