I guess the cast of Jersey Shore isn't white enough for A & F

Of course they aren't white enough. They aren't black enough or brown enough, for that matter. They aren't any naturally occurring skin color. I don't think dayglo orange is considered a race, though, so A&F not wanting to endorse them can't be considered racist.

Ethnocentricity is not only about race, its about prejudging anyone who is different in any way shape or form. While race is one form it is not the ONLY form of prejudice.... talk about only wanting to see what you want to see.

PS- its not my job or my intent to make people see things they don't want to see. That's why the world is still the way it is, I'd like to think people can change but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm just glad their stock took a header, say what you want about how it doesn't matter but obviously it does, the facts don't lie & the fact is their stock took a hit.

I'm really not understanding what "ethnocentricity" has to do with a company not wanting to be associated with a bunch of drunken idiots. Unless maybe you are trying to imply that being a drunken idiot is a characteristic of a particular ethnicity?:confused3 But surely you wouldn't do that, since it would be absurd and offensive to say such a ridiculous thing.

WOW, 7 pages and from what I've read it's gonna be a good 7 pages, I just don't have the time to read it all now.

So far, I'll just say I really don't think my criticism can be racist if I'm actually a Caucasian criticizing a company that is focused on an very particular affluent Caucasian demographic especially since the same company has a substantial history of offending other groups (like the poor girl in London with a prosthetic arm).

Still, I love a good mob so I'll be back later today with some cookies & milk to see what the masses are saying. Who needs TV

anyone else completely confused:confused3:confused::confused3

Seriously? "Painfully white?"

There is nothing wrong with being upper middle class. If you happen to not like white people or those you stick in the "upper middle class", that is your racism, your snobbery and your problem.

:upsidedow

What a disgusting comment.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I think the OP is the major racist here!

Since when are Italian Americans and WASPs a different race?

I'm so glad that others, finally on the 7th page, made the point that Italians are, indeed, Caucasian!

Hoping that wiki got it right, the only one not actually Caucasian is Snooki, as her family of origin is from Chile. There is one other who is half PuertoRican, but I don't know what his actual ethnic background is, and the other "half" is Italian.

So it's absolutely ridiculous to think race is involved here....

I never heard of painfully white before. To the best of my knowledge I have been white for over 40 years and not once found it painful.

Only when sunburned. :)

Then again, my half Korean husband got sunburned once, too...though I guess we have to blame his Caucasian half (Welsh and Portuguese) for that. Oh, and the tanning bed I encouraged him to try out, to get his chest the same color as arms, neck, and face.

It used to be when you said you were from NJ, someone would always say "What exit?" Now, they say, "oh, like Jersey Shore." No, you idiot, it's not like Jersey Shore.

People from outside of NJ don't know "what exit", unless they already have friends there. So...it's different people saying that... Someone thinking it's all Jersey Shore wouldn't know "what exit". (for the record I learned it from my friend who grew up in Hadden Heights, who LOVED LOVED LOVED going to "da showa" over summers....I don't know how she feels about the show, though!)

Glad it's not just me!

So by the same logic....I can call people White Trash since I'm white?!?! Do I have that correct?!

(I know that's not racist but I'm trying to come up with an example here....)

And I wouldn't say it's a mob. A thread where most people disagree with you does not equal a mob.

When LuvOrlando say's so. :confused3;)

Actually they are Caucasian, just not painfully caucasian.

So what are Italians then? UNCOMFORTABLY Caucasian? :lmao:

My background is all British Isles. I must be excruciatingly Caucasian. :rotfl:

I think this was planned by A&F and the cast. MTV blocks out all logos, but for some reason they've been showing the Abercrombie initials this season. I even commented on how weird that was. People are eating this up, so I guess the advertising strategy is working.

Actually, my mom is Italian and my dad is not, so I'm not even sure what I am anymore.

Then you are confused about the definition of "racism."

A few weeks ago aeropostale mad a big fuss about the cast of teen mom wearing their clothes, so they ban them from doing so. I don't get why they wouldn't want the free advertising. Millions of people are watching these shows!! It seems like both aeropostale and A&F want lots of publicity by banning their clothes.

Gary on teen mom isn't really a fashion model that other young people would want to emulate. Farrah? She's probably good advertising.

I doubt it's the NJ connection it's the fighting, drinking, rude, skank, sleeping around thing.

The people on that show act like idiots, I'd uninvite them too.

Same thing for teen mom.

Usually if they show a brand name it's assumed that they endorse the show, by allowing thier copyrighted items to be shown.

I have no problem with them. I don't shop there though, the stores stink.

I still think it's Snookie and she has hijacked LuvOrlando's username.
That's the only logical explanation I can think of.
I mean, saying that A&F is racist because they don't want the Jersey Shore cast wearing their shirts while they yak up breakfast and "smush" every bimbo in town, and that because of said racism (against the orange??) America at large is so enraged that it actually made their stock take a dive????? AND somehow all of this also means they don't want ANYONE who goes to the Jersey shore or used to go there to buy their stuff?

I smell fake tan and Aquanet....

Good summary! :rotfl:

The sad thing is that I don't think any amount of rational argument is going to change the OP's mind.

Honestly, I took it too mean that they don't want people thinking A & F endorses those so-called celebrities. The few times I've seen them on TV, I've found them to be extremely annoying and offensive in their speech and actions. I wouldn't want to be associated with them either.

That's the way I understood the news story I heard today. A&F asked him not to wear their clothes on the show because they don't want it to seem like they are condoning his BEHAVIOR. BEHAVIOR not ethnicity or social status.

Nice looking kids! Did AF/Hollister (can't remember which one you said this was) mind that your niece showed up wearing their competitor's clothes?

Yes, they minded very much!!
