In the past while researching my families summer vacation options I would always end up saying, "we can go to Disney World for less". Well with Disney's rising prices coupled with the cutting of services at WDW. It looks like this is the first time in a long time that I can't say that the WDW trip is the better deal. For this summers vacation my family of four has booked a 7 day cruise out of NYC to Bermuda for less then the cost of a trip to WDW (I have even factored in extras such as tips/service charges, excursions and other charges). This doesn't event take into account the price of airfare and the ridiculous add on fees for baggage, assigned seating etc.

Now I know we will be returning to WDW sometime in the future as it is an unique vacation experience, but for now at least I guess I have finally hit my tipping point.

We hit ours as well this year. With all the renovations going on, we thought we would just wait a year or two until some of the new things open up. If the cost wasn't so high for the things we are getting, we might have still gone. But we decided to spend less and go to DC this summer. :(

None of my friends can believe we aren't going this summer. I may have terrible withdrawals. We'll see.

Even with all the "great offers" that Disney has out?

I even "assumed" that free dining would become available again and factored that in.

The cruise lines are all planning raising prices shortly as well so who knows what the future will bring.

If you really enjoy going to Disney, you may want to consider DVC. It will atleast lock in your room rates for the next 40-50 years. We bought enough points through resale to do a nice vacation every other year. Our yearly maintenance is ~ $700. Right now the resale prices are very attractive, especially for AKV, SSR, and OKW.

How do you find someone who is resaleing? Do you do that through Disney. Thanks for letting me know the maintenance fee as well, I have wondered that. This might be something we need to consider!

Check out the DVC forums right here on the Dis. Tons of info and don't be afraid to ask questions.

I have purchased two resale contracts through ********** with no problems. Lots of people also use the Dis Boards sponsor The Timeshare Store. There is also DVCbyresale. All of them have listings of contracts up for sale, and there are lots of them, from 25 points up to 1000 and at all the resorts, including Bay Lake Tower.
