Is he WORTH $70?
Is everything that is high-priced at WDW WORTH it?

That's between you and your budget. :goodvibes

1. He's Mickey.

2. He's small and "cuddly".

3. He talks in the parks about the attractions and events, tells "groaner" jokes* kids love, and plays a couple of simple games.

4. At home, he still tells the jokes and plays the games.

5. See #1.

-----------
* "Say Pal, why did Goofy throw the clock out the window?
... He wanted to see time fly! (Mickey laugh)".
-----------

A neck lanyard is the method they offered for carrying the newer "50th Anniv." Pal Mickeys.
(They even gave us one free (limited offer, last year) for our old Pal.)

But I always clipped him to my shirt collar (at the "V" of the neck).
He's a bit heavy, but I managed over MANY days of many trips to do this.)

I can then just lift him to my ear and I can hear him perfectly.
(If another person in your party wants to hear the info or joke, PM will REPEAT the same message up to 5 times in a row if you just re-squeezing hand or tummy at the end of that message.)

If you want, you can go to a local store that carries inexpensive neck lanyards and buy one to attach to your Pal.

The newer "50th Anniv." Pal Mickeys do reportedly have a louder "voice".

PM "50th Anniversay Special Edition" (newer version). He comes dressed in a TUXEDO.

If the ones you see on eBay are NOT dressed in a tuxedo, they are the older "classic" version.

The older PM's where $50 when new (but where heavily discounted when the newer ones came out, say, to below $20) but they are not available from Disney anymore.

The 50th Anniversay PM's are about $70 now at WDW.

But there is not really a LOT of difference between them, except:

New PM talks a bit louder.

New PM can describe the few newer attractions that weren't open when the "classic" PM was first introduced. (Not a big deal.)

New PM has a slightly larger "library" of things he can say (and sing!)

>>>
Just a word (I have not seen anything "official" yet)...
New PM... just MIGHT become a "Classic" himself, if they issue a "PM v.3" as the "50th Anniversary" draws to a close.

My 11 year old has had one for a couple of years and he's used it a lot. He really loves it. I think some of the humor and info would be wasted on younger kids. If its for you then no problem!

i have pal mickey it is so worth it, pal mickey ::MickeyMo is very informative and it keeps kids entertained on long lines. he tells u show times coming up and interesting information about attractions u are passing by at that moment. he plays games like "Mickey Says" and 2 more entertaining games :joker: he is awesome if u don't want to buy him u can rent him for $8/ day (that is how much we saw it for but we bought it) :mickeyjum
he even works outside the parks (he plays games with you and tells corny but cute jokes. :wizard:
when u go back to the parks the next time, he knows about any new attractions that weren't there when u bought pal mickey first time. :thumbsup2
:snail:

We love ours. However you are no longer able to rent them. I agree with the other poster:It's Mickey!

We didn't get much extra fun out of ours. DD was done carrying it after 10 minutes which left Me to do the job. I was so preoccupied with loosing our newest $65 investment that I couldn't manage to enjoy it. My kids 3 and 7 were very impartial to it. I say find another way to spend the money while at WDW. There is no shortage of ways to do that!

I picked up the 50th anniversary edition on Ebay for $60 and I've enjoyed having him around. He's particularly good in AK and Epcot, pointed out some interesting things that I might have missed. He will also point out short lines at attractions, parade and showtimes which is helpful.
I've also noticed more than one child playing the games with him while waiting in line-if he can keep a child from getting bored in line the money is well spent.
It also depends on how often you go to the parks. If you're only making one trip I can see why he would be too expensive, but it you go often, he's a fun companion.

It would be for all of us, my DD's are 5 & 8. I don't know if they would care, I am a total Disney freak, but probably wouldn't miss it one way or the other......It is $70 bucks I could spend on alot of other things....
I'm sure DH will say "We Don't Need It".....He sees everything in dollar signs $$$$$$$$
Thanks all for replies !! :thanks: :genie:

I got "classic" Pal Mickey on E-bay and love it. The kids 5/4/3 love him also, it is Mickey after all! He isn't that heavy to carry around all day and adds great tips throughout the day--short lines, character sightings, ect. IMHO Pal Mickey is money well spent.

YES HE IS! I love him!! :teeth:

I bought one a few years back and my kids loved it!

When we got home it was played with for a while then ended up at the bottom of the toy box. I found it there, put it on ebay and sold it for about the same price it had cost me new!

:earsboy:

OK- how cute is he in that outfit!!! Do they sell clothes for him there? A tuxedo is a little formal for me...

They do have a few outfits at the parks, I almost bought the rain poncho just because it brought back memories of those silly yellow things. If you click on the website referenced above-there are other places you can get clothes if that's your thing.

We have had our classic Mickey for about 4 years now. He is getting rather threadbare and worn, but, still works well. A hassle sometimes...yes....worth it....yes!!!! He's Mickey!

We are thinking of putting him in the glass case along with my Dr. Who doll that my Mom made and purchasing a new Mickey.

We wouldn't think of going to Disney World without him!

BTW...Turn him off at night and take the batteries out when you aren't using him at home. He does use up the juice!

Four other outfits are sold at WDW for about $10 each.

Go here for LOTS of outfit "ideas" for your Pal.

www.palmickey.net

We have 6 or so different outfits that my DW designed and "built" just so he can dress for any WDW "occasion."

Ours sits in my curio cabinet. He's cute to look at so I don't mind having him--plus, I got it as a gift so I wasn't out the money at all. However, he's a bit big, heavy & speaks too softly to be of much use. Not to mention, when we do the world, we travel as lightly as possible---no one wanted to carry him after the first day.

He's happy now though, hanging out with Jedi Mickey in my cabinet. :rotfl:

Thanks! :) Yes, they sell outfits...just 4 at the moment though. There is a pin trader outfit, poncho outfit, safari outfit, and MMC outfit. My Mickey has the safari outfit and MMC outfit. Plus, he came in a very spiffy tuxedo! :goodvibes
