I Got the Call (those moved from AKL)

Sweet Pea UK - My dates were July 29th - Aug 3rd - had booked a std. view, was trying to upgrade for the past 3 weeks to no avail, I now see why.

Thanks for all the help with choosing a resort, it helped alot.

I was playing to switch to the beach club, but when I called I talked to the nicest cast member ever about my situation and she hooked me up with the Poly.

I realized never to lose faith with Disney again, they always seeem to know how to work everything out. I truly couldn't thank the cast member enough, she truly made sure I would have a magical stay.

That is sooooo great. I am sure you will have a magical trip. We are going in Sept. and staying at AKL. I am beginning to wonder whether we will be asked to switch as well.

We were originally booked at AKL for 7/30 to 8/6 suprise bday trip for DD and DS. I was gradually getting more and more apprehensive about the construction ruining my daughters first experience at AKL (her dream resort). So when I was able to get an upsell for BC I jumped on it (200 less than we were paying at AKL). The resort should have been close to 1000 more for our 7 day trip so I was thrilled to say the least with the upgrade and discount.
I think you will really enjoy the area. Have a great vacation.

It is really that much more expensive? We were booked at AKL from 7/28 - 8/3 (pool view) and we were switched into a 1 BR villa at SSR, which also should have been about $1000 more. We are getting $946 back. Is that because of the different resorts? Or because we paid rack rate for AKL? Just curious.

Not really sure about SSR. I ran ours on the Disney web site and that is how I came up with the difference in price. I had run it before we got the discount because I was trying to see what other options I had as far as what I could afford to go with this late in the ballgame. I remember being very sad because I could not figure out a way to make Poly or the BC work and being very frustrated with Disney because I was not told about the construction when I booked AKL in Feb. We had standard view at AKL and switched to standard view at BC. The standard AKL room is 215 a night rack rate and then BC rack rate for a standard room is 315 then you add in taxes etc ontop of that. I was paying rack rate at AKL before ... the upsell I got is the equivilent to the 40% off code.

To the OP...how did the Poly get into the mix? I thought you were choosing between BC and BWI?? How cool that you got the Poly instead! Did you get it for the same price?

Beware the Poly! You will be spoiled being so close the MK, and just a short monorail ride from Epcot. You may never want to stay anywhere else! Oh, and sitting poolside, watching Wishes is just about the bet thing ever!

When I originally got the call, I wanted the Poly but was told they had nothing, I could only choose from SSR, BC, or Boardwalk Inn. I took the Boardwalk.

When I called back today to change to the BC, I explained my situation to the cast member and how I truly wanted the Poly and that I had planned this vacation to a T. She talked to her supervisor and when she came back she had me in a std room at the Poly. She really made not only my day, but one incredible vacation to look forward too.

Congrats to you on the Poly!! We are arriving at AKL this Sunday and also have a standard room booked. I wonder how many people they have moved out. I hope they haven't decreased the bus service to the resort.

I ate at Boma tonight. I didn't hear any construction. I saw the construction when we went out on the sunset lounge balcony and one side of the Arusha rock. I still didn't hear anything, but by that time it was after 7:00pm.

The resort still looks wonderful! Everything on the inside looked fine and I didn't hear anyone complaining. We even sat in on a bit of the Botswana film the CM was showing in the Sunset lounge.

Everyone looked pretty happy... I'm sure anyone checking in will be happy too!

WOW, you got an amazing deal, I would love to stay at The Poly We are checking into AKL on Aug 23rd for 7 nights, standard room as part of our wedding/honeymoon. I'm really concerned about the construction now I booked with a TA, do you think I should voice my opinions to her and see if they too can make a switch, long shot I know, but the last thing I want on my honeymoon is construction ruining my experience, I too have planned this thing to a T.

You didn't say whether you were charged more for the Poly, or have gotten the same rate as what you would have paid for the AKL...

When this first started we contacted our TA (we are checking in Sept 15). From what I understand Disney told the TA this isn't something you can ask for. Our view was.. if you are going to be moving people and we might be affected lets talk now not a couple weeks before we leave.

Sorta bummed us bc we booked AKL for a reason. We completely understand Disney having to move people..in some cases it might be for the better. BUT we have been given the understanding that you have to wait for Disney to call you.. reactive vs proactive.

I can't wait to do the single-digit dance. For now, i'm stuck watching the ticker in my sig everyday. Instead of purchasing stuff at Wally World, why dont you wait and purchase stuff you need after you're already in Orlando. They have a fairly new Wal Mart in Lake Buena Vista by the outlet malls. That's the one we visit when we arrive to buy water and snacks.

I'm hoping to get "the call" and see if I can switch to POLY! That's where we wanted to begin with , but so much money!
We saved 40% off to begin with staying at AKL, because we had a code and pin...
I hope I can switch to POLY IF we get the call!!

You'll love the Polynesian. Since it's your 21st birthday, make sure you drink around the monorail. I recommend the Kona Cool Sundown at the Polynesian.
