Notice how the history major got NO history classes because they were all during her First Year Seminar:rolleyes:

So what's up with that seminar thing??

It was almost 25 years ago, but I always had 5 classes per semester.
I guess it's not uncommon to have the first year taken up with "core" type classes as opposed to your major. You must be getting so excited to get started!!! Good luck!!

First year seminar is 14 kids who become your mentor group and you do all these activities with your faculty mentor as well as your student mentor. It helps you during orientation as well as get used to college...but it is a class :)

That sounds interesting, and hopefully it will be helpful....it's good that you get credit for it too! ;)

Don't worry, soon you'll be taking all history classes and longing for the days of your easy Gen Eds! (Or you'll just pick up a second major and a minor like I did and be in school forever...)

I finally got my schedule taken care of! (And it only took what, 3 months?) I wound up with two Film and Video Studies classes, one French class (The second-to-last one I'll ever have to take!), one upper division non-western civ (my last gen ed!) and one English class.

Monday:
9:30-10:20 The Hollywood Musical

Tuesday:
9:00-10:15 French Literature (taught entirely in French)
3:00-4:15 Early 20th Century American Indian Literature
4:30-5:45 Intro to World Music (It's an intro, but a 3000 level class which is kind of strange.)
8:00 -- film screenings for The Hollywood Musical. Hopefully I can just rent most of them.

Wednesday:
9:30-10:20 The Hollywood Musical
2:30-5:20 Children's Cinema (yay! I'm excited about this one!)

Thursday: Same as Tuesday!

Friday: Same as Monday!

I am not looking forward to the 9 and 9:30 AM classes, but what are you going to do?

How exciting!!! Looks like a great class schedule to me!!! Good luck :) Oh and I know that for my major, I didn't do much with teh actual courses until my 3rd & 4th years :)

How on Earth did you get a schedule with no class earlier than 9:15??? ;) I remember having 8:00 am classes my first year in college and HATING getting up that early. I really structured my senior year courses so that I had two days off (Tuesdays and Thursdays for lab -- actual working in broadcast journalism as that was my major) and the other three days with no class starting before 10:00. Good for you as a freshman to have a schedule that starts at a more reasonable hour! ;)

Have a great college experience! Best wishes for a FABULOUS START!!!
Joan

Second year history major here, I've had 1 history course each semester so far.

How exciting!!!

Don't worry about not having any history courses to start with. Your first two years focus so much on the gen ed requirements that you don't have time for the stuff in your major beyond just a few lower level courses.

I remember my 1st semester schedule had me with an 8:00, 9:00, 11:00 and 1:00 class on M, W, F and a 9:00 and 2:00 class on T, TH. :( I hated getting up early and unfortunately for me because of my major classes I only had one semester where I had one day with no classed until 11:00. Usually it was 8:00 or 9:00 everyday.

Sounds like a good schedule! In a few semesters I bet you'll learn the fine art of scheduling no classes for Friday! My third and fourth years were kinda like yours, one of two classes per day but most of my classes were 2-3 hours long!!

How exciting!

I really shouldn't look at schedules of students in other faculties though... because I'm always envious of how light they are! :p For instance, looking back to my first year, first term Engineering schedule it had 7 courses... 6 with labs... which meant pretty much classes 8:30 to 5:30 with a lunch break, 5 days a week. :o So that's on average 6 hours in the classroom per class (3 hours lecture, 3 hours labs/course = 36+ hours per week) It's *slightly* better now, but it's still 6 courses (most with labs) so early mornings/late afternoons are still the norm... but your schedule on the other hand, looks GREAT! :teeth: The lack of labs really cuts down your schedule... enjoy!!! :sunny:

And don't forget, Nora, only a few hours from Chicago, a DIS meet now and then to break the schedule up a bit. :teeth: Good luck, best wishes as you get ready to start a new chapter of life. :sunny:

That looks like a good schedule. My DS has classes only on Tuesdays & Thursdays - from 8 AM - 4 PM with a break late morning. He can drop the 8 AM class if he has to, but he would still have to start at 9:30!

Last year I loved having my classes at 8 a.m. Sometimes tough being there that early, but DS had to be at school at 8 a.m. anyway. May as well take a class then. I'm not so lucky with the schedule this time around. Oh, and I liked early classes because then I have the rest of the day for homework. Starting next Weds. I've got...

M/W 12:30 - 1:45 Contemporary Lit
M/W 2:00 - 3:15 Physical Science for Today's World

T/Th 9:30 - 10:45 Intermediate Algebra
T/Th 12:00 - 1:45 Foundations in Education (Do I REALLY want to be a teacher???????????????????????)

NO classes on Fridays! Yahoooooooooooooo! They offer 3-hour classes on a Friday schedule rarely.

Just wanted to wish you the best of luck at college Norah!!!!!
