Or, I guess more appropriately I got free movie passes that we will use next weekend to see Ratatouille. Of course check out the circumstances surrounding the obtaining of said passes. I took DS8 to see Evan Almighty last Saturday. This was a very funny, family friendly movie with a great message. Walking into the theater there was probably about 50 to 60 people in the theater, most with kids 15 and under. Well the movie started about 15 minutes late, and the first preview starts with a nice housewife washing dishes then suddenly pulled through the kitchen window screaming and blood flying all over the screen. Of course DS freaks out, and hides his eyes and I am in some sort of shock. The whole preview (I cant even remember the title) was about his terrible monster thing killing people. The next preview is this Nicole Kidman film about zombies similar to Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Another preview that seemed every other word was a new way to describe being intimate with someone. Well, by now my mind is made up that I will be complaining after the movie. Anyway the movie starts, and I see the name Quinten Tarantino on screen and I start to be very confused. Very suddenly as names and credits are appearing on screen bloody hands and tools are appearing on screen. It takes a few seconds but I realize things aren’t right. I try to gather up my popcorn, sodas, and son who I have instructed not to look at the screen and make my way out. As you can imagine it took a minute to get out, and what was on the screen in that time was the most disturbing images of torture, blood and gore I have ever seen. I passed one woman who said to me “They put the wrong film on, they are turning it off” I keep moving out the door to find a young kid standing there and tell him they need to get that film shut off now. This guy looks at me like I just asked him to solve that math problem in Good Will Hunting. About that time a lady comes running up in Managers attire practically screaming into her walkie talkie to shut the film down. By now everyone in that theater had emptied out, two kids about my sons age crying loudly. Turns out they messed up and were showing Hostel 2. The management eventually handled things as best they could with profuse apologies, free movie passes and a refund for the current movie. The manager stayed in the theater to make sure that Evan Almighty was indeed showing before we reentered and was at the door when the movie let out to apologize again. We went back in and enjoyed the movie after all, but there was more than one family (one of the crying children) that did not go back in. After we got home I looked up Hostel 2 on the internet and read a review and synopsis. I have to say I am truly disturbed by this film. From the few moments I saw and what I read. I don’t know what disturbs me more, that someone would make this movie, or that people would pay to go see it. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good horror flick, but this was beyond anything that should ever be made. Anyway, just felt like sharing.
