I got AKL Savannah view for $139!!!

Can you believe it?!?

I just had to share. DH and I will be visiting for my BDay in November and he has no idea we'll be at AKL for two nights. He just thinks we're spending three nights at OKW!!

we could have paid $129 for savannah view during the summer....
it was a postcard code...

but i'm one of the few people who doesn't much like the AKL....we stayed there last year...
the lighting is very dark.....and the rooms are tiny.....really tiny if you're trying to fit in a family of four....
and the front desk staff was somewhat on the cold side...

OKW has giant sized rooms.....and has nice bright coloring.....
and the CMs are as nice as can be....

Great rate! I stayed there last month and I LOVE the place. CMs were super nice and helpful. You won't want to leave. Have a great trip.

I stayed at AKL in June. yes, the room was dark but overall it was anice room and the CM were all super friendly. Would I stay there a gin, Hmmmmm, maybe for one night cause I like the rooms being lighter. bomas I liked alot and I DO NOT like buffets I just thought my overall experience at the AKL was a really pleasant one.

I was also wondering how you got the great rate???? My SIL is also going to be at AKL the end of OCT and her rate was $139 for a standard view....I'dlove to have her get a savannah view as when we stayed there this was one of the many charms....

Aring75 just announced that she is very excited to stay at the AKL for a great price..."just had to share" since she was so excited...and you replied by saying you could have gotten a better price and that the place isn't that great anyhow. I'm sure you are trying to be helpful, but it just seemed weird to me (of course tone is lost in the messages). It sounded to me like she just wanted people to be excited with her...

Not trying to pick a fight, honest...just that your message seemed so negative that it seemed odd to me.

Aring, I think that's a great price and that your DH will enjoy the surprise. I always love surprises, too!!

Awesome price..I paid $200 a night for Savannah view room for 6 nights. I knew that I could have searched a little more than I did but in the end I just went witht hat rate. To be honest I didn't care...I thought it was an AWESOME trip...my best ever to disney and I am a Tampa native so I've been a few times before.

I cried when we left, I felt like I was leaving my paradise...it was just sosooo relaxing. I made it a point to spend time in the lodge just taking advantage of the beauty of it, and talking to the CM's from africa. I learned soo much from them that I got one guys email address and am seriously thinking of going on a real safari!!!

Boma is excellent...highly recommend it. The rooms are a little dark , but i didn't care ...hope this helps!! Have a great trip!!

cheap rates have been availabe for the AKL all year almost without interuption...
i'm not sure why, but i would assume it has to do with location and room size...
as i pointed out in my post, i'm one of the few people i know who is not enamored with the resort.....for the reasons i stated...room size and lighting...
i prefer light and airy hotels (probably why i fell in love the GF and much prefer it to the BC and YC, which also tend to be dark, though not nearly as dark as the AKL......perhaps disney believes the phrase "darkest africa").....

there is no question that it is a beautiful hotel and that a savannah view is wonderful......i sat and watched the animals for extended periods of time (we had the giraffe view....a favorite animal of mine)....we stayed there last year for 9 days (of our annual 3 week trip to WDW)....however, i chose not to stay there again this year despite the extremely cheap rate (instead paying 3 and 4 times that amount to stay in various other establishments), because i didn't like the dark lighting and the small rooms....(the room is small for a family of 4 with 2 fully grown teenagers)....

it's just another opinion....

WOW!! Good for you! We are also staying in an AKL savannah room in Nov but paid $176 / night (includes tax). How did you get that rate?????

Yes. It was a postcard rate. The card said AKL starting at just $99.00 / night! I upgraded to savannah-view for $139!! I just couldn't believe my luck. I've wanted to try this resort for some time, but didn't want to stay unless we could have a savannah-view room.

This was the FIRST postcard of my life, even though my DH and I spend approximately three weeks at WDW every year, have FL Resident passes, and visit everything else every chance we get!!

Oh, and by the way!! It's perfectly okay if someone doesn't care for this resort even at such a great rate. If we all liked this resort, I probably couldn't have stayed here for only $139!! We're each entitled to our own likes and dislikes. I'm just glad that I'm fortunate enough to 1.) live less than an hour from WDW, 2.) have a husband who is as immersed in the magic as I am, and 3.) be able to afford a trip like this even at this wonderful rate!

Congratulations on the great rate you got!!! Thats wonderful!! Im SO excited for you!!! Ive been to AKL for dinner and the resort is just SO beautiful.

We are paying 149.00 plus tax for a Savannah room for Thanksgiving. We were supposed to stay at the Poly and got a great rate on a Concierge room but I think we have all decided to go with AKL. The kids REALLY want to stay there and I think secretly dh does too. I want what will make them happy. Im getting my Poly concierge for my birthday. Now its their time to have exactly what they want.

you are indeed lucky to live only an hour away....
if we lived that close we'd probably never leave WDW....
at the very least we'd be there every weekend....
alas, we have to 'settle' for 3 weeks every summer....
and it takes us hours and hours and hours to fly (this year the airline tickets alone cost us over $10,000 to get to orlando....frightful)......just one leg of the trip is a non-stop 11 hour flight.....and that's just one leg of the trip to get there (don't get me started about transfering in JFK in new york).....
a trip to the states/WDW for us is a major undertaking....(and i dread the travel required to get us there)....

so yes, i am major jealous of your proximity to the happiest place on earth....

i'm sure you'll love the AKL...in any case, i firmly believe in trying every WDW resort at least once...(the only two i haven't made it to yet are the CBR and the pop century)....
every person has their own likes and dislikes.....you never know which one you'll like unless you try it...

That sounds wonderful - that rate is fabulous. Do you know I've NEVER EVER received a postcard from Disney. And we go one-three times each year. You'd think we'd be in the "big computer" somewhere and our name would kick out eventually to receive one. Oh well - maybe this is our year. If I were to receive this particular rate offer, I'd jump on it.
