I finally got a job offer today. I have mixed feelings about it.
The bad things"
It's not the job I REALLY REALLY Wanted,
It pays a little less then I wanted
It has bad benefits - ie insurance but DH does have that. I just wanted to be doubled insurance for dental.
It's all the way down town. ie 30 to 45 mins

It is a job I could live with it.. It's a sub contractor for Union Pacific
There is a few good points

I already told them about my Dec vacation and it was approved
I would have okay hours - if it's stays to the time I was told in my interview it would be 6-2:30pm
It's a new department starting so I could make a good impression and move up.

Of course the best thing.. it is a paycheck. : )

Hey, BB, it's better than some of us! Congratulations! I hope to post the same one day myself!

God bless,

Thanks Robinrs-
It took a while to first decide to want a job, then not being able to find one, then really needing a job, then having calls and now getting a job. ( even if it's not the one I really wanted).

Advertisment for Monster.com- I went there to have my resume redone.. IT worked miracles. I paid 169, and the person that did it - did an wonderful job.

DH is a high level IT consultant (20 years experience) that has been looking for 6 months. Please let me know what service you used.

Congratulations!

Lanshark - I went to monster.com and went to the resume center. It cost 169 for mid level/management, but I started getting calls shortly after I started submitting my resume.

I'm not sure where you are located, but here in Omaha, if you have an IT degree you would have a job.

Congratulations!

I hope you enjoy your new employment opportunity!

Congrats, Linda!! I know it stinks when it's not everything you're looking for...in a few areas. But it's a paying job!! :) :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Congrats Buckleybunch! My mom and brother both work for UP!! Of course, my mom worries about losing her job so I'm surprised to hear they are hiring with all the layoffs. But, maybe that's good news for her too!! Good luck with it if you decide to take it!!

That is great news!!! Congratulations and good luck with the new job!!

Hi ZachnElli

I won't be paid by UP- I'm a contractor- I did that with AT&T. My paycheck came from West but I worked with all AT&T people.

I think they do that so they don't have to pay benefits. Which is okay - I have DH's insurance.

This position was orginally in St. Louis and they decided to move it to Omaha.

I didn't realize they were laying off however. Now that makes me think or Mutual and First Data.

Need the $$ for all my disney plans. and my daughter's softball expenses

Yeah, they have laid off thousands in the last couple of years. My mom was really nervous about getting her 30 years in (she did last July). The lady that sat in the next cubicle was laid off with 29 years in. She'll now get her retirement guaranteed, but she's only 56 and has to wait until 65 to get it and has to pay the bills until then. She said they will be laying off more before they move to the new headquarters as it was built to fit only so many. :( They are moving the jobs to India.

Seems like everyone is moving jobs to India. Paypal tried that and it didn't last very long. When you are used to quality work, then you get less then that, they tend to come back. I know West as a lot of work that goes to India..

I'm glad to hear your mom got her years in.

Linda, congratulations!! Just getting a job offer can really raise your spirits!! I say take the job. It may turn out better than you hoped - love those hours and you'd get home in time for DD's softball games, I bet!! If it turns out to be a bad fit for you, you can continue to work there and get a paycheck while looking for something better.

Best of luck with whatever you decide! :sunny:

Thanks everyone for the kind words and congrats..
