I find forum posts of people complaining about working at disney waaay to ironic lol

I can't speak to the CP directly, as I haven't participated in one. But a person's experience doing anything comes down to temperament and interest. Some people are more optimistic than others, and optimistic people handle stressful situations better. Even pessimistic people, if they love what they are doing, can enjoy their experience.

But if you have a pessimistic personality, in a high stress situation, doing something they aren't 100% committed to... well of course they aren't going to have a good time.

And there is no shame in either. Your temperament isn't something you can change overnight. (Some believe you can never change it!) I just think before anyone signs up for something, they should evaluate themselves and their interests honestly. Because if you aren't honest with yourself, it's only going to be miserable for you and everyone around you.

I agree. I find your statements particularly applicable to the CP application process itself. When asked to check off roles of interest, many people (not all) will check off as many as possible, with the assumption that doing so may possibly broaden their chances of being accepted into the program. Unfortunately, this becomes a problem when a person is accepted and finds themself in a role that is disagreeable to them. Then a five month commitment becomes a whole other animal entirely. I actually did this when I applied. Fortunately, I was given merchandise, which agrees with me. Now, in retrospect, if I had received custodial or costuming (essentially laundry), the time spent there would likely have been viewed differently as far as work goes. And changing roles is not an option, unless there is a very good reason indeed. So it really is important that people are, like you pointed out, honest with themselves.

first of all let me say I'm so excited I got accepted to disneyworld for spring 2012! <3

and with that said, the point of the forum post is I think its way to ironic when I look at posts on other forums of people advising against people going to work in teh CP program

they always fall under two categories.

1) people who complain about having to do real work when workign for disney. god forbid right! it just annoys me seeing posts of people complain that they had to work out in teh sun all day (which I'm pretty sure they must not know how to read since the cast discriptions usually say you must be willing to work outside in extreme conditions lol) or that they can't eat during their shifts out in front of the guests (lol I don't think subway would let you eat while you are making people's subs but i never see anyone complaining there) or that they had to work a bunch of hours.

reading those posts just makes me want to smack teh person and be like, welcome to reality! :D

or they fall into category number 2

complaining that disney doesn't pay enough

not only that it REALLY irks me when people say that disney doesn't pay you enough to live off of and that they charge rediculous amounts for rents. I find it ironic that most of the people who make these complaints are teh parents, soem going as far as to say they their son/daughter barely scraped by with enough to eat (one even said her daughter was malnurished living off cheerios as if lol) reading these types of complaints either gives me the sense that soemone doesn't know how to spend their money, or parents are so gullable to believe the kids aren't just spending their money on stuff they shouldn't be, and that disney is being a terrible employer for 'over working' their children and that their children couldn't possibly be the ones causing their own problems

or rent wise I think even if you were living in teh more expensive apartments it's probably much cheaper than renting your own apartment when you concider all teh free stuff like internet and whatnot. who cares if disney makes alot of money off a room with 6 people paying $70 a week in rent, it's still alot cheaper for you than to live anywhere else, even college dorms charge way more than that xD

lol sorry for the rant, and more sorry that my first post since some time last year was a rant to begin with. but really I was looking up some stuff and I just can't get over the fact that people think you don't get paid enough, I don't really see how, unless you have some rediculous cell phone plan/car payment/ rent your own apartment down there/ whatever else would cause an unusually large bill how you could come out with less money than you went in with or not have enough money to eat with lol

rant over and done xD

and just for carification I'm talking about threads that come up on other forums when you search about CP reviews xD

Completely agree with you here. Working around so many people, its going to be a little bit more intense than a normal job. Also, you should already know you are going to be making around minimum, but you can still definitely have fun with it.
CollegeJunkie is what we call a troll. Someone who only posts to irritate people. Best to just avoid them all together. I mean, you are not going to be taken seriously when you insult people. I am going into Law school and I did the program, so that kinda blows his theory of lawyers not attending the program.

People who complain about the CP need to grow up and learn a thing or two about the real world. I did my first CP when I was 18 and it grew me up in a hurry, living on my own and buying my own food, doing my own laundry, etc. If you're going to work for Disney and then complain then just quit, in my opinion, and let the people who really want the jobs work there! It's not an easy job, especially dealing with so many people all day long, but I found it to always be very fulfilling and a wonderful experience.

I will say my worst days on the CP were nothing compared to my worst days at my previous job though! I was a server and YIKES! Stress stress stress!

Of course, that kind of attitude is also likely why my school is number one in our region's recruiting.... since those of us here who did the CP share the experience realistically and still encourage people to do it.
