The one place my daughter wanted to eat during our upcoming trip at the end of the month is Chef Mickey's. There were absolutely no times available for any date during our trip. When I checked this past Saturday, however, a bunch of times had opened for dinner every day. Do you think people cancelled reservations because of cancelled trips, or does Disney hold out some reservations until it closer to the date?

I'm not sure about that one...I had a similar situation recently as well. First I was looking for a reservation for Chef Mickeys - nothing. Then one opened up and I grabbed it. It wasn't the best time, but I took it. I kept looking online at Disneys dinign reservation and nothing. I checked dinner and breakfast for almost every day we're going to be there. Then one morning I went online and viola! There was a better time for the day I already had a ressie and it seemed like a bunch more opened up....I changed my ressie to the time I wanted. I then checked again a day or so later and no ressies available for Chef Mickey.

I was thinking, as you, either a bunch of people cancelled their ressies (maybe those who had 2 holding and decided which one to use) or Disney holds on to some ressies and then releases them at different times. I really don't know and am a bit curious, but mostly am happy that I got the ressies I wanted.

I was also looking at Chef Mickey today for available dinner times and several choices came up between 5p-630pm for a party of 4 during our week of 10/9-10/17. I was surprised since for the past couple of months, nothing at all was coming up as available. It got me nervous after reading other threads about "auto cancelling" of reservations and I quickly checked all of mine to make sure everything was okay - thankfully it was.

It has to be that they held back times. I looked and looked and there was nothing available, at any time, the entire week we are there. Then all of a sudden there were prime dinner and breakfast spots.. 5-10 different ones for every single day. That isn't people cancelling ressies.
1900 Park Fare was the same story a few days before that.

They must have held back times and opened more up.
Just the other night was online looking and there was tons of availability for lunch and dinner.... figures, wishing I grabbed the dinner at 8:00 that I wanted, as now it's not there. But oh, they had tons of availability.... "had"!

Wow thanks for letting me know. I had a ADr for 8:30 because my DS wanted to go for his bday. We usually would never eat that late.. i just checked and was able to get one at 5:30!! Much better time for our family! Thanks again!

Wow, that's fantastic, how lucky! We were able to get them for February but not our trip in October. Perhaps I should check again...

What is everyone's favorite meal there? We've been for breakfast once and the wait was dreadful even with a ressie so i'm curious if anyone knows what times are best, etc. Thnx

Okay so thank you thank you thank you... I was just able to get reservations for Friday Night for our October trip :O WOW

After eating there this past trip I really dont understand the popularity of CM (and the difficulty of getting an adr). The food quality is really poor, and the buffet was kind of messy. The tables are very close to each other, so it can be uncomfortable getting to the buffet or getting the character visits/pictures. It's really Golden Corral quality, just with characters.

Sorry to rain on the parade/excitement of getting in, but we wouldnt go back.

If characters are your goal, there are other character buffets that have food quality that is much higher than you get at CM imo.
