Ok....I bought the pup. 1999 Coleman Santee. Its not perfect, but it was in my price range, is solid, and is going to serve us fine for a few years.

BUT....the fridge aint working. I saw Amy post that the fridge has to be turned on from the outside....whats that all about? Doesnt it work on the electricity that I have the camper plugged into?

Im brand new at this camper stuff....so QUIT LAUGHING AT ME!!!!!! I just need some help, man!!! Is it possible that the fridge is just broken? It is a 3-way Norcold fridge....Ive heard these things last for 20 years. All help is craved and appreciated:worship:

:cool1:party:

Congratulations! I see you're driveway campin' already! Wishing you and the family many happy camping trips Rog! :wizard:

Our fridge in the travel trailer works on both electric and propane. Button is on the fridge..which one you want to use. Maybe you have it plugged in..but it's programed for the propane..and if you don't have the propane running, the fridge may not be working.
It may be different with a pop up..not sure. I'm sure Ami will be along shortly to help you out.

Very nice Rog. I've been thinking of getting a small one just for me. I only have one other comment:

Yankees? YANKEES? What are you thinking????????:confused3

Congrats on the new Pup!! It looks great! I can't imagine how excited you must be! Hope your family has lots of fun making new camping memories.

Good move Rog! It looks great. I like the picture of you inside with your arms spread out like "all this is mine".

I've got a popup too. My fridge has a switch to choose running on propane, electricity (shore power where the main camper cord is plugged in) and battery (12V if yours is so equipped which mine isn't).

If you choose propane (which I never do since we camp in state parks, etc.) you need to push the button to "start the propane motor". It will cool slowly.

I always use regular electricity. You should have a vent on the outside of the camper on the back of the fridge and if you plug it up and let it cool for an hour or two you should be able to feel the heat coming out of the vents. Plus it will start to feel cool inside.

Welcome to the pop-up world! We love it. :3dglasses

Amen - your search is over...

Rog I have a Coleman Pop Up as well and I have to remove the cover from the outside of the Fredge should be a 2 part cover you need to remove the lower part and there you will find a switch for 12V one for 120V and tyhe controls for gas. becarefull as to only use one at a time.

Looks good Rog, should be an excellent way to enjoy camping. Now, we just need to get a massive GG at the Fort. We can have a group camper show-off. :thumbsup2

Congrats on the new addition to the family. Like you say, it may not be perfect, but it will get into a camper and you can learn a few things and graduate up to something bigger and better down the road a few years.

One thing about the various fridge vents, heater vents and what not. If the previous owner didn't already do it, you'll probably want to cover the vent openings with a smaller mesh screen. Not necessarily window screen, but something large enough to keep flying insects (read wasps) from building nests inside. Before I had done this with my pup I ran across a 6 inch diameter paper wasp nest in my fridge. And a smaller nest in my heater. Instead of buying the covers you can find a the camping stores I just secured some 1/8" mesh to the inside of the covers with silicone. Worked like a champ. Did I say I hate wasps?!?!!?

Have fun with your new toy Rog. Hopefully we'll run across each other at the Fort sometime.

Rog: Congrats on the new camper! I purposely stayed out of the ongoing discussion in the thread you had going re. your search. I tend to consider myself unlucky and didn't wish any bad karma on you.

I remember our first Coleman with many fond memories. May yours be filled with the same.

Now - Campout in Rog's driveway tonight - bring the cold ones since he hasn't figured out how to run his fridge yet!

Congrats on the new camper! Now you just need to make yourself a nice green Mickey head sign so that we can find you at the Fort! When is your next trip?

I'm so glad you found one you like in your price range. So what if it isn't perfect. . . if it were, you'd probably be worried about wear and tear from kids, spilled drinks, etc.

May I suggest Fairview Riverside for your first camping trip . . . inexpensive and close to home.

We once took our pop up to Madisonville, set up to find the A/C wasn't working. A quick trip into Covington to the Wal-Mart and purchased a fan to keep us comfy through the weekend.

I know your glad your search is over!

That is great I am happy you found one. You will have so many great memories for your family. Now you can join us for July 4th right.

By the way, Rog, these RV fridges take a LONG TIME to cool down. I start mine the day before or more to cool it down. They also don't make any noise, but you can usually tell if it's working if you open the access outside and feel the coils - they should be warm if it's working.

Not wishing to be a harbinger of doom, but if the fridge is shot, they are really expensive to replace. I would think that with a 3 way, at least ONE of the options should work. Check your fuse box to be sure the fuse is good to the fridge. A bad fuse would keep all 3 from working. Always best with an RV fridge to keep it full - and fill it with food/beer already cold. Clogged gas jet will keep the propane from igniting - common with a unit stored since spiders like to build webs there for some reason. Running off the battery never works as well as shore power or propane.

Congrats on the new camper! I'm glad your search is finally over. My son is a welder for Norcold, so to us, that's the only type of camper fridge to have! :thumbsup2
