I just got off the phone with my mother who told me there was an article in the Israeli newspaper about an attempted kidnapping of a 9 year old girl in Disney in April. She said that the article included an interview with the parents who said that as soon as Disney security was notified they park was sealed. The mother was taken to Disney's security office and asked to ignore what the child was wearing or her hair and look strictly at shoes. The child was found in a bathroom with half of her hair shaved off, in different clothing and drugged. The parents also said a security official told them there has been a few of abduction attempts in recent months. My mother said that the article stated officials where able to locate the child quickly.

We have 5 young children (10,8,7,5 and 18 months) and visit Disney every year. I would appreciate being informed about situations like this. It's so disappointing to have to hear about this through my 60 year old mother in Israel. I understand that any tourist area would want to keeps stories like these under wraps but Disney is the #1 attraction for famalies with kids.

this sounds like a hoax.

I think that if something like that really did happen the US world news would be on it like white on rice.

I have read that story many times each year (1999-- happened in sears, kmart, walmart-- even Macys at one point of time.

I dont know about you- but how many have ever visited a bathroom in Disney for it to be empty enough for someone to shave someones head?

I would check snopes before believing this. Every few months a story like this comes up.

In case this isn't a post to get people riled up.

I heard that story months ago... it keeps circling again and again and again. I wonder if it every actually happened.

I replied to a thread about this maybe two weeks ago. This is an old made-up, some would say folk-tale. Nothing like this has EVER happened at Disney. Please do a search on here about it!

A tad more research online will lead you to snopes.com and the various iterations of this story that have been on the internet literally for decades. A bit MORE research will provide you with an article from the Israeli newspaper that first "broke the story", apologizing to its readers for perpetuating a hoax and noting that the reporter who presented it as fact has been fired.

No child has ever been abducted from a Disney park in the history of Disney parks. Ever.

A bit of logical and rational thought will also pretty much instantly refute the story. Since you have visited the parks every year with five young children, I imagine you have been in more than your share of Disney bathrooms. Do you honestly think that someone could get away with drugging and shaving the head of a child in a Disney bathroom without anyone noticing?

You should know better than to believe stories told by your mother! I always check my facts first before I believe anything my mother tells me, LOL!

Perhaps you could edit the title of this thread so it is not misleading, since this is a hoax?

I assure you I'm not looking to rile anyone up. Like I said, we go every year with 5 kids. Having 5 young children doesn't leave much free time to start an anti Disney coupe. Just looking out for other famalies and parents.

Will do. Thank you. Maybe I should have done more research but I was so appalled I wanted to alert the same community (disboarders) I turn to for advice when we go to Disney. I will edit the headline. No harm meant. I've never heard about a hoax like this. Not sure why anyone would do it.

Relax - just one of the many "scare" tactics that makes it's rounds. But, we, as parents should very much keep our eyes on our children anyway, and I would NEVER let a younger child go to the bathroom alone, even though there was a thread on here not long ago about parents defending this practice because they wanted their child(ren) to be independent and not scared. Sorry, in public places, I don't agree. It has and can happen quickly (these are professionals). But, again, this is a scare thing, please ignore it and enjoy your trips. I was there in April and nothing in the two weeks I was there was locked down.

Please use the word hoax in your title, since it was not a real attempted kidnapping.

Isn't that the truth?!? :lmao: I love my mother, but I'm not sure why she keeps sending me scary, untrue e-mails about carseats on the side of the road, stuff thrown on car windshields, gang activity, etc. I have tried sending her back the link to the Snopes articles that reference the e-mails she keeps forwarding, but I've given up. :headache:

I agree with you! I don't take chances in public places either. There is no reason to. My husband goes with my sons and I go with the girls. Last year in Epcot there where a few intoxicated ladies in the restrooms. They were fine but obviously drunk. I was happy I was with them (they couldn't understand why the ladies laughed so much...hahahaha).

LOL...gotta love mom's!

Recently there has been a lot of stuff in (mostly) foreign papers that has been proven to be a hoax. I think it is just a sign of the times, the world is smaller and news spreads quickly. The story of the dentist who pulled all of her ex's teeth out and the young woman who lived on chicken nuggets have both been proven to be false.
Still, certainly keep an eye on your kids no matter where you take them!!!
If something like this did happen at a Disney park it would be all over the news here in the US. People always say Disney pays hush money to keep bad things quiet, but the families and law enforcement would not go along with that ever:thumbsup2
