And I pity any girl who isn’t me tonight,
La-la-la-la, La-la, La-la-la

Wait, here’s another one…

You wait, little girl, on an empty stage for fate to turn the light on.
Your life, little girl, is an empty slate that men will want to write on…
You are sixteen, going on seventeen...

...How is it possible for me to love “The Sound of Music” so much but to genuinely hate these lyrics! Yet, I find myself humming “I am sixteen, going on seventeen” all the time.

Anyone else a musical fan, either theatre or movies? I’m a total push-over when it comes to musical theatre; there are very few that I dislike. I even love OKLAHOMA!, for gosh sakes! Did anyone see the London production with Hugh Jackman as Curly on PBS? When he kissed the girl playing Laurie after the dream ballet, I giggled like a school girl (which is ridiculous behavior, really, for a liberal feminist).

Probably my favorite musical is “The Sound of Music,” but followed closely behind by “Gypsy” and “My Fair Lady.” Any other musical theatre fans here? What are your favorites?

"Oh what a beautiful morrrning! Oh what a beautiful daaaay! I've got a wonderful feeeeeling that everything's going my way!"

Gotta love musicals!

Sound of Music, Grease, The King and I, Moulin Rouge, Mary Poppins... too many to list!

You are not alone! ;-)

"Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" Loved that movie since I was a kid!

"Singin' in the Rain"

Not strictly musicals, but I love to watch the old Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers movies.

I love a few musicals. I LOVE opera....:D

A law was made a distant moon ago here...July and August cannot be to hot and there's a legal limit to the snow here..in Camelot.

Just saw it this past weekend with Robert Goulet in the role of Arthur. Going to see The King and I next month. I love musical theater.

All I want is a room somewhere,
Far away from the cold night air
With one enormous chair

Oh, wouldn't it be loverly?

This is my favorite musical song!

Oh, so loverly sittin' absoblum-i-nute-ly still,
I would never budge still Spring crept over the windowsill!

Two faves are 'Guys and Dolls' and 'The Producers.' We ended up seeing the Producers 2x--the second one in Los Angeles with Jason Alexander and Martin Short.

I love musicals! R&H especially, but any of them. My cousins and I will start up at the drop of a hat breaking out into song. It drives their kids nuts, especially when we put on "Jesus Christ Superstar" and sing the entire show! There's a big gazebo at the Boston Harbor Hotel and they (my 2 cousins) actually did the whole "16 going on 17" routine - bench hopping & all - one day. They thought no one was around but at the end some business people walked by. If I'd been there I probably wouldn't be telling this story, since we're all on the far side of 30:teeth:

All Time Favourite

I'm the greatest star
I am by far but no one knows it!
That's why I was born
I blow my horn
Till someone blows it

POSTED BY SWANMOM'S DD:

Some girls like to cook and sew
When I cook, it's in a show...
I was born to entertain.

Some girls prefer to help mom clean
I'd rather learn a dance routine ....
I was born to entertain

Instead of walkin' , I go flappin'
When I tap, I make it happen
Mom says I have Broadway on the brain.

Don't get too comfy in that seat
When I strut my stuff, you'll be on your feet
I was born to sing and dance........ !

A song that I am convinced is about me....
:p :p from the musical "Ruthless."

Yes, I am. :) I did musical theater all through high school and college. I love it.

My absolute favorites are Chess, Sideshow, Sunset Boulevard, Big River and Guys and Dolls.

I love musicals. Now my 10th grade son is taking theatre and chorus and I'm tickled pink. I love many shows. Probably my favorite from when I was in it is Brigadoon. I also have a fondness for Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat because I think it is so cool that the entire musical is sung - no narration! I saw Bye, Bye Birdie at the Kennedy Ctr years ago and it was fabulous!

If there's a song, I'm going to like it!

I am hoping that at least one of my kids gets cast in the musicals when they get to high school. They are so much fun to watch and to be in.

My neighbor's daughter was cast as one of the Puerto Rican girls in the HS production of "West Side Story." She declined the part because she wanted to be Anita or nothing...it made me crazy, because I could die happy if I could sing and dance in "America."

I love musicals.........almost all of them.

My sisters and I will sing songs from "1776" at the drop of a hat. We drive my BILs crazy with it, but we've got our nephews hooked on them too.

I also love Oklahoma, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins.....

"I like the city of San Juan.
I know a boat you can get on....

Everyone there will give big cheer.
Everyone there will have moved here..."

I could also die a happy woman to be a part of this musical number. (Although, admittedly, Anita is a great part- "A boy like that could kill your brother, forget that boy and find another."

From Les Miserable:

Don't you fret, M'sieur Marius,
I don't feel any pain
A little fall of rain
Can hardly hurt me now.
You're here. That's all I need to know.
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
And rain will make the flowers grow

From Sound of Music

I am 16 going on 17
I know that I'm nieve
Fellows I meet
They tell me I'm sweet
And willingly I beileve

From A Chorus Line

Kiss Today Goodbye
The Sweetness and the Sorrow
Wish me Luck
The same to you
But I wont forget
What I did for love
What I did for love

I love musicals :)

Wow! I forgot A Chorus Line...

"One singular sensation, every little step she takes
One thrilling combination, every move that she makes
One smile and suddenly nobody else will do
You know you'll never be lonely with you-know-who

One moment in her presence and you can forget the rest
For the girl is second best to none, son
Oooh! Sigh! Give her your attention
Do I really have to mention she's the one!"

(I once spontaneously burst into this song when I was 16 at summer camp, and an amazingly cute counselor named Ted joined in and began to dance with me. I thought it was the single most romantic thing that had happened to me at that time. Good memory.)
