...
And I pity any girl who isnt me tonight,
La-la-la-la, La-la, La-la-la
Wait, heres another one
You wait, little girl, on an empty stage for fate to turn the light on.
Your life, little girl, is an empty slate that men will want to write on
You are sixteen, going on seventeen...
...How is it possible for me to love The Sound of Music so much but to genuinely hate these lyrics! Yet, I find myself humming I am sixteen, going on seventeen all the time.
Anyone else a musical fan, either theatre or movies? Im a total push-over when it comes to musical theatre; there are very few that I dislike. I even love OKLAHOMA!, for gosh sakes! Did anyone see the London production with Hugh Jackman as Curly on PBS? When he kissed the girl playing Laurie after the dream ballet, I giggled like a school girl (which is ridiculous behavior, really, for a liberal feminist).
Probably my favorite musical is The Sound of Music, but followed closely behind by Gypsy and My Fair Lady. Any other musical theatre fans here? What are your favorites?
