I feel bad for Belle and Gaston in this European heat wave. In the actual village that the story originally takes place, Villeneuve, it will feel over 100 degrees F this whole weekend and in other parts of Europe as well. I wonder if the weather didn’t feel as bad in 1752 (the approximate year of the movie) due to less global warming and a working O-Zone atmosphere? I wonder what Belle, Gaston and others from the movie would do to escape the extreme heat? Swimming, eating ice cream (it actually existed in the 18th century), hanging out in the ice cellar? If Belle had the 8 kids with Gaston, I wonder if the kids or the heat would drive her more crazy on an oppressively hot day? How do you think the fictional Disney characters would beat the heat? Have fun with the thread.

Belle, on the other hand, will be just fine. We know she would never in a million years marry Gaston. She'll be sitting in the castle, reading a book while the servants bring her ice cold lemonade!
I wish Disney went with their original plan for Gaston instead of the anti-feminist version they chose instead. He was actually just supposed to be an overly confident marquis. He wasn’t totally against most Belle’s views in the original plot. Belle also had two sisters and a mistrustful aunt in the original version. Gaston was only changed because one of the creators wanted to show a bad stereotype of men. I personally disagree with the decision but it became a classic anyway so I guess Disney was right for what they did.
