I feel ashamed about this topic...smoking in Florida

sorry Moira, I wasn't suggesting you were complaining, I was just agreeing with Michelle that drinking is seems to be totally disregarded as far as health issues are concerned. I lived with an alcoholic for years and to see how drink can turn a person into a totally different personality is shocking.

Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers so much Notice, we didn't complain and didn't feel we even had a right to do so. Just that this thread seemed to be visited by considerate smokers sensitive to others' feelings, so I thought I'd point out that if you are close to other people's rooms, it may be thoughtful to move away slightly.

Point taken and hopefully no more smoking anyway. I can put the money towards Florida. Each time I want to buy a packet I will put it in our savings account. If thats not a reason to give up dont know what is

Well done you on making a fab choice, I am in the process, slow process of stopping, I smoke the cigarettes I need, not the ones i want, and have really cut down, i tried cold turkey, but only lasted 2 weeks..
whatever you decide it has to be your decicion and you have to want to do it, pressure from other people really doesn t help
let us know how you get on..

ps im a considerate smoker too, only smoke outside or in my own car, inconsiderate smokers give the majority of us a bad name, in the same way as the majority of people drink considerately too...

More deaths from alcohol? I dont buy it. I believe I read that there were over 6 million smoking related deaths last year. Alcohol doesnt come close.

OK maybe not MORE deaths but the statistics show that its increasing by a whopping 18% every year - mainly men! that of course doesn't come close to unwanted pregnancies, injuries, domestic abuse, nice scenes of lairy crowds vomiting and fighting in the streets, abuse of hospital and emergency services, etc etc,
Again I'm not condoning smoking at all but as far as I know nobody ever got in a fight for smoking too much!
