Hope that this is an okay question but since it is our first trip without the kids, we were hoping to hit a few bars. Any suggestions for happy hours either in City Walk area or along I-drive. We love to walk or take a taxi -- staying at the Quality Suites on Canada Avenue.

Also, if anyone has used the free shuttles offered at the hotels -- do they run okay or are we better off walking or cabbing?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard. You can walk to I-drive. There are lots of restaurants to choose from. You'll be near Wet N Wild (WnW) which is at the north end of I-Drive. There's a steak house, and a Chilis.

Hotel shuttles are spotty at best, and some use 3rd party services and make guests pay $11 per person round trip. The big problem with the hotel shuttles is they don't start running until 9am, they're late, and by the time you arrive, it's 10am. This wipes away your early morning advantage, which is huge when you are not staying onsite.
Hire a cab or limo to take you over each day at 8am. You want to be walking up to the gate at 08:15am and get in line first. I tell people to rent the car for the convenience factor, but if you want to use a cab that's also fine. Do not sleep in and arrive at 11am. That's the worst thing you can do.

If you want a party factor, and plenty of stuff to do, stay in a hotel right in the middle of I-drive, close to Pointe Orlando and such. Its within walking distance to many a things...though the hotels arent always the best.
This past weekend we were within spitting distance of Magical Midway, Chuck E Cheese, and about 20 bars, and resturants. Good times.

Spoil yourself and go to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville on Citywalk. It's awesome and does some great cocktails!

O'Shucks, about half way up i-Drive, does karaoke every night if that's your thing. Really friendly staff! In fact, lots of the bars have karaoke on i-Drive from memory! One word of note, O'Shucks is a smoking pub.

Wife and daughter want to go to the mall that has the Ron Jon shop in it this trip so it looks like I will cruising I-Drive one day of our trip.Neither of them would know what to do with a surf board if they had one so should be interesting to see what we buy there.

They may also want to check out Quiet Flight Surf Shop at City Walk.

Cloths, mainly t-shirts with a logo on them. You'll be at the far north end of I-Drive.

You're going to be across from a fancy steak house

See if the wife will drive and you go find a bar. You could ask to be dropped off at Texas Brazil to drink while they shop. Standing around for an hour while they shop will not be fun. It seems like time slows down while waiting for the womenz. Or pick up a six pack and stay in the room until they come back and it's time for dinner.

I hate it when the wife and kid want to check out the gift shops. It drags on forever, which is one reason why I don't care to take them any more.
