OK, this may sound like I am being a whiny, crying baby man, but could someone please explain why MK hours for May are later (closing every night 8:30pm or later) than the hours for the second week of March (closing at 7 or 8 most nights)? March is PEAK season and May is REGULAR season.

I know, I know... its gonna be a great vacation anyway. But sometimes Disney aggravates me by giving me less and charging me more (peak season rates)

Grrrrr....

Probably because of the change to Daylight Saving Time. If they closed at 7:00 in May it wouldn't be dark enough for fireworks (Wishes) and SpectroMagic.

Phamtom is correct. It gets darker later in May, and since they do Wishes every night, they have to keep the park open until dark to accomodate it.

Last year's May hours showed MK closing at 7 p.m. It isn't dark enough for fireworks at 7 p.m. now if February! So how does that work?

On one of our days to MK, we will be having dinner at Crystal Palace with a PS of 5:15 p.m. I am hoping that will allow for enough time before Wishes (no posted time yet).

But will Wishes really be at 7 p.m. anyways? I really don't believe it is dark enough.

Comments?

Thanks

Diana

There were no Wishes fireworks in May of last year so the parks weren't open later during the week to have to show them. Instead MK was only open later on Fridays and Saturdays for the FITS. Now that Wishes is shown every night MK has to stay open until dark.

9:30....I just called Disney and there are no passholder discounts yet. She was very helpful and looked them up to make sure, but said nothing at this time. She said that she's expecting them anytime now - maybe March 1st, but they weren't pending at this time so didn't think it would be today. She said that the last set came out a month before, so she's guessing anytime within the next several days. This is all speculation on her part but just thought I'd share.

Sorry, I was in the wrong thread! Didn't mean to post this one here! I thought I was in the Resort Boards! That's what I get for surfing the net while on the phone with CRO!!!

Here are the wishes times scheduled for May.

wishes
May 3, 5-7, 9, 10, 12-14, 16, 17, 19-21, 23, 24 -- 8:45pm
May 4, 11 -- 9:30pm
May 8, 15, 22, 25 -- 10pm
May 26, 27, 31 -- 9pm

I also agree that DST has alot to do with hours. Also, maybe the projected attendance for May is higher than March. Last year spring break and easter ran closer together, but this year with spring break in March and Easter mid-April, there is a more spread out amount of time to visit the parks. I, of course, don't want to know that the attendance is going to be higher in May, since that's when I'm going. Also May has tons of private parties, personal functions, corporate functions and grad nights, so the hours tend to get a little crazier. On 5/19 MGM closes at 6:00 for a private function. And there are so many "behind the scenes" functions going on that you will never know. Also again, no eticket nights scheduled for May, so maybe that why longer hours?? who knows what they are thinking!

Looks like we'll be at WDW with you, Zippa D!

I'm whining right along with you on this topic. I don't understand why they charge more (to stay on WDW property) and give you less (shorter park hours)...not even an e-ride night option! Kind of stinks....but only kind of. I'll be over my rant just as soon as I hit the "submit reply" button BE-CAUSE. . . . . .

I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD one week from today, and I'm going to have a BLAST no mater what!!! Woo Hoo!!!

Is the Wishes schedule up on the WDW website? I couldn't find it anywhere.

John, I'm not sure. I got my info from disney employee only private site. This is the one they use when you call and ask a question. It was updated last night (2/27) so the info is new, but always subject to change like any site, whether private or public.

My whining can only be so loud, too Diane. After all, we are going to DISNEY WORLD<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_1_150.gif' border=0></a> From what we can now assume, it makes more economic sense to go to Disney World in May since guests are paying less and playing in the parks longer.

One effect my aggravation had on me was to bring me back to reality just a little bit. Nothing like a little corner-cutting to do that. I had called two days ago to get a quote on upgrading to CR. I was told it was going to cost me $550 more. In my typical what-the-hey manner, I was going to call and pull the trigger on that deal today. Not now. I'll put the $$$ toward my beach trip this summer. I emailed Disney last night and told them about how this incongruity of hours effected my planned spending. Let's be real, I'll probably never boycott Disney, but the less consideration they give to guests during the higher-paying season, the less I am inclined to spend. The message I get from WDW is that my dollars just don't go as far in Peak Season.

Alrighty then, I'm alldone with that littel rant... now may the dance continue!!!!! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15_1_49.gif' border=0></a>

Zippa D--- I'm going one day after you. The weekend hours are actually quite late I thought for that time of year. I was shocked to see MK open until 11 pm 3/14!
