I don't trust park tickets from resellers. Why do you?

They work, as long as it's an authorized ticket reseller. Just have to do research to find out what people recommend. I've used Undercover Tourist before twice, no problem. I've heard Maple Leaf Tickets are good too. There's others that others here can recommend

Remember that amazing Southwest Vacations ticket sale last October? And the United one that followed right on its tails? Dang, man.

Repeating myself here, but you guys have truly shed light on this for me.
I think it's a lot like buying DVC. Some people swear by buying direct (what we did) and others swear by resale. I get it, I really do.

I realized I'm a direct kinda person. I want to go right the source, no middle man or anything resembling. I plan to buy my park tickets direct for our upcoming trip. I'm going to take advantage of the price before it jumps on the 12th.

Unless you're booking a package, which you may be, it makes no difference. If you have a room only reservation, that means you're buying your tickets separately. And if that's the case, buying them directly from Disney or buying them from UT or PS Will have no practical difference except the price that you pay. Personally, I can't imagine deciding to pay Disney a penny more than I have to, considering how expensive Disney trips are. But if you're OK with paying upwards of $100 more for the exact same ticket media by buying directly through Disney, it's your money.

Understand, though, this actually is not the same issue as buying DVC directly or not. It isn't as if you're buying a ticket that somebody has lived in before you. You're buying a brand new ticket. The ticket reseller market exists with Disney's blessing and support. Disney knows that there is a market that the resellers will be able to reach more directly than Disney can, and Disney wants to sell its ticket media as widely as possible. This is much closer to deciding whether to use a travel agent or to book your own travel directly. In some cases, your travel agent will be able to give you access to discounts that you won't be able to access directly. And that is exactly what is going on here with ticket resellers.

Right now, I could save $334.07 over disney's app price by buying through ebates/expedia over Disney's new prices, for my family of 3 to have 7 day Park Hoppers. This is the best deal I've seen.

We're opting for 10 day PH through Official Ticket Center, for a savings of $258.14. That's hardly pocket change, in my opinion...the savings alone will pay for airfare for one member of our family (and we're not even talking about the 1.5% back on my credit card that I will get wherever I buy from).

Agreed.
See my post #24 above.

Ok, so how does parksavers work? I was unfamiliar with them until this thread. I was going to purchase from UT this evening, who I am comfortable with, but parksavers would save me an additional $28 total on 4 8-day park hopper plus water park tickets. Are they e-tickets that are immediately available for use? Do they send me paper tickets? I will be nervous until they are linked ok (well, probably until the first time I enter the park!) I have done a reseller for Disneyland but never Disney World as we always had a package before. Is the company easy to work with if there are issues like UT seems to be? Please put my mind at ease!

Ok, I can't add. It would save me $18. Thinking of sticking to UT for that amount for my peace of mind. Also parksavers asks you to enter a date of use and I don't see that for UT.

If you have an Amex card, check your deals page. There's an offer there for $15 or $20 off your ticket purchase from UT if you use the card.

I like going straight through Disney for my tickets. Wouldn't want to spend a bunch of money to not have them work for some reason!

if you're buying from an authorized reseller, that's not an issue. The tickets are no more likely to have a problem than if they had been purchased directly from Disney, and if there is a problem, Disney will fix it.

My friend is buying her tickets from undercover tourist and saving $30 each. The only difference is the price.

That's not a good comparison. Here's a better one:

Say you want to buy a TV online. Amazon.com has the exact same TV available from 2 different sellers, one is directly from the manufacturer, the other one is from Amazon. Both have the same shipping costs and time frame. Both have the same warranty available. The only difference is the price: the one from the manufacturer costs 20% more. Which one would you buy?

Ok so on our social networking site for neighbors around the city, the city and county government and the city's police department this actually in a round about way came up. A person posted that they are a TA for DLR, WDW and DCL.

A person asked about discount tickets and here was another person's reply...this person that responded was NOT the TA:

Talk about major wrong information. I commented back:

Then the person commented back but ended up deleting their post. But they said they went 3 to 4 times a year but admitted yes people should do some research. I still cannot believe someone who goes that often has such incorrect information.

They're a TA... they want to sell the packages which net them more commission than a room only reservation.

The post didn't surprise me at all.

Ummm...did you actually read my post??

I said the person who responded was NOT the TA...meaning this was some random person who answered with "the only way to get"...

ETA: To make it clearer-
Person A posted that they were a TA
Person B posted a question regarding discount tickets
Person C posted the "only way to get discount tickets..." part
Person D was me who posted "actually that is far from the truth..."

4 different people here. I had to black out some information because it includes the person's first and last name as well as the neighborhood they belong to.

I don't think we have ever purchased directly from Disney except for 3 Annual Passes. All of our other tickets over the past 27 years have been from resellers:

  • first from the Magic Kingdom Club that used to be offered to various companies and their employees then
  • Undercover Tourist (too many times to count);
  • Parksavers (at least 3 times);
  • Maple Leaf tickets (2x).
All our experiences have been trouble-free; quick; using either mailed tickets or e-tickets and saved us hundreds or probably thousands of dollars total.

We have also bought tickets for Universal Orlando from resellers many times.

If Disney stopped allowing resellers to do business that could be the last straw for us; ending our visits.

Awww - the Magic Kingdom Club. Loved that.

The fact that third party resellers sometimes have HUGE sales on multi-day tickets makes me wonder if I should buy today (before the increase) or wait for the next special to happen.

In the past, the specials have been much bigger discounts than the typical annual price increase...

I did just that last month. We already had our tickets from a reseller for our spring trip but knowing that ticket prices are bound to increase in the future I bought additional tickets using one of our air miles credit cards so we have tickets for the future and a few more air miles as well.

Well done! I'm experiencing some regret that I didn't stock up on some of the 5-day tickets (with hopper and WPFAM ) when they were on sale for ~$375... especially since there was no time limit before they had to be used. I guess it felt like that was a lot of time for money to be tied up in theme park tickets. Just hoping there will be more sales like that in the future.

The main difference was that I think attendance was weaker last year when the sales were going on. Based on recent reports, who knows if they'll need to run those specials anytime soon!

I think you could still see more sales on tickets. Carefully watch all the resellers and I bet you will luck out!

I agree about the worry of tying up money for a luxury item such as park tickets. DH was a bit hesitant to buy them at first but we do have the money right now so it made sense. This way if we don't use them ourselves, Dsister and I can go! I did order paper versions so that I can just either give to relatives or sell if necessary; still debating whether or not to add them to MDE for 'dummy' names for safekeeping. I will need to read up a bit more about the details of storing tickets on MDE.

Undercovertourist.com, or Parksavers.com, or officialticketcenter.com seem to be the most popular.
UT and OTC you can save even more by goi g through a link via mousesavers/touring plans

Sorry- I know this is an older post but what do you mean by you can save even more by going through a link via mousesavers/touring plans?
I have a touring plan account but I don't see a link to undercover tourist?

I plan on buying some of our tickets through them (already have my WDW tickets but want to buy Seaword and Legoland via UCT.
i noticed you can do this via Ebates as well (where I also have an account), for 1% cashback.
But, any other way even better?
