This thread is refreshing change from the usual "I hate Elizabeth" threads.

I cannot stand Joy and she was rude. They all were rude to John excpet Elizabeth.

I highly highly doubt they'd be that tough on Obama.

Thankfully, they were nice to his daughter though.

Exactly and as far as I know, Elizabeth was not rude to Obama even though she is conservative. I will not give The View my time.

I watched it and I thought Joy was rude. She could have asked her questions more respectfully. I also sensed a bit of hostility from Barbara. Mind you, I'm an Obama supporter.

However, I think people are totally misunderstanding the Whoopi comment. The way I understood it, McCain was talking about appointing supreme court justices who would strictly construe the constitution as it was originally intended by the forefathers. Whoopi's point was the constitution wasn't perfect at the time it was written and there have been many changes made since the forefathers wrote it - i.e. slavery. McCain said "point taken". So I think he knew what she meant.

I thought the slavery issue came up when they were talking about Supreme Court Justices. McCain said he would appoint judges who "upheld the constitution". Thats when Whoopie thought she would be "funny" (I guess if you have that kind of sense of humor ) and made herself look like an idiot by bringing up the slavery issue and asking McCain if she should "start running now" .

When she (they) start that crap it makes it harder to listen to them if/when they ever talk about serious issues. DISCLAIMER...not that I don't find slavery a REAL SERIOUS issue, just that even Whoopie knows that would never happen. She's an idiot.

ETA: Does anyone remember what Barbara said when Whoopie was "all in a tizzy"? I thought Barbara said something to the effect of "us white folks will save you" I know that isn't the exact quote but I believe its similar.

Whoopi proved her own point. Strict interpretation of the original document made slavery legal. Strict interpretation of the 13th Ammendment abolished slavery and made it ILLEGAL.

Does she not want the 13th Ammendment strictly interpreted? If the 13 Ammendment is not strictly intepreted (as its original intent was), then it is conveivable that slavery could be reenacted. It is the strict interpretation of the 13th, and ONLY the strict interpretation, that keep slavery unconstitutional.

About the constitution...
The CONSTITUTION is the 'CONSTITUTION'!
That includes all lawfully enacted amendments!

Before that constitutional amendment - YES, a supreme court justice should and must have been bound to uphold the constitution, as it currently stood. There is a rigorous and long and deliberate process to amend the constitution. It is not up to any president, or any justice, to re-interpret it or to change it. The intentions and the ideals of our founding fathers, and our original constitution make very specific provisions for the fact that it could require updates/changes in order to be a living document.

I think Barbara was the worst..she barely looked at McCain and had a major attitude. I usually like Whoopi but some of her comments were just uncalled for. Whenever the rest of them get going on something, Elisabeth lets them say it but as soon as she says anything..they jump all over her.
