For the scarecrow I'm making, that is.. :teeth:

Trying to do this on the cheap without buying any supplies.. I have old jeans, a flannel shirt and a pair of work gloves that I can stuff with whatever I can find, BUT - how can I make a head?

Any suggestions?

No straw hat either, so what else could I use?

I'd like to have this done and out front by the pine tree before my DGD comes back next Friday..

Thanks! :flower:

A pumpkin makes a good head for a scarecrow. If you don't want to buy one, a basketball looks a little like a pumpkin. :)

Stocking cut and stuffed with hay. If not hay, newspaper.

Hat - what do you have? Sombrero?

Do you have an old white/off white or maybe even brown pillow case that you could stuff?

Yup! Definitely have a pillowcase I could use..

The only "hat" I have here is a cowboy hat.. Ever see a "cowboy" scarecrow? :rotfl:

Yep! I've seen a scarecrow that was a cowboy! It's halloween for cryin' out loud! Anything goes. ..... you could make him "punk" and be ok!

you know those plastic pumpkins that trick or treaters use to carry candy? those work well. (I was in a scarecrow making contest once. I'm pretty good at it. We won first prize)

another vote for the pillow case,, and a bit of pine straw around the edges,, a base ball cap will erven work,, with pine straw hair..

We made one of these a few years ago out of a pair of old overalls, a flannel shirt, gloves and a pumpkin for a head. We stuffed him with old newspapers and straw, letting some of the straw spill out around his neck and wrists. He sat on the bench in front of our house at least a week until someone stole him.

Who in the world would steal a scarecrow"?? That stinks!

OMG! Someone stole my scarecrow too! :rotfl: We get a kick out of it, because it made it into the paper. "PRIZEWINNING SCARECROW STOLEN, THEIF STILL AT LARGE" :rotfl:

I took a plastic grocery bag, stuffed it tight with other plastic bags and tied it at the top. Then I covered my plastic bag with a large piece of off white scrap fabric and rubber banded it at the bottom and then covered the band with raffia. Then I outlined the face with black sharpie and painted in the details. It has held up, outside every fall for at least 5 years!.................P

Use a large brown grocery bag from the grocery store and stuff it with crumpled newspaper or some of the plastic shopping bags. leave enough room at the opening to gather it up to close it and to stuff the "neck" into the clothes. You might need to put a small broom in there to so the handle will give it some stability..You can use the plain side of the bag to draw a face. If you have something to use as a bandana you could turn it into a Pirate scarecrow.
