I am saying please be nice because I know there are dozens of negtive posts on the election.

I have friends who have said in all seriousness "Im moving to Canada if Obama wins"..Ive seen other posts about moving as well if this was the case.

Why? , in all honesty what are people afraid of it they reallywant to move out of this country?

Again, I am just looking for an honest answer, without all the nastiness.

TIA!

It happens every election. I'm still waiting for Alec Baldwin to leave.:rotfl:

I've seen that as well and I honestly don't know but I'm really curious to know the answer.

I don't get why a Republican would go to Canada. I thought they hated nationalized healthcare? :confused3

It was the same way when Bush won - didn't alot of the celebs say they were moving out of the country if Bush won - but after the 2nd election they still stayed in the good US of A - So I think its a joke for anyone to say they are moving anywhere if so and so becomes president because you only look like an a$$ is you don't follow through

My sister and BIL say the same thing. Cracks me up. I just asked her if she's picked out her property yet....eh? :rotfl:

I have no idea why she says that. I don't see any dems running for the border if McCain wins....:confused3

People say things without thinking and with their emotions. I seriously doubt anyone would actually move out of the country over this. Reminds me of kids who play the if I don't get my way I'm taking my toys and leaving.

I was not particularly fond of either candidate, but every time I see that statement I have to wonder what would make them say such a thing..:confused3 Why would they want to leave the greatest country in the world - just because their candidate wasn't elected? The only thing that changed since yesterday is the election of a new President - and the weather.. Would anyone really pick up and leave this country because of that? :confused:

Not me! :thumbsup2 I'm proud to be an American.. I will look to the future with optimism and not "expect" the worse from someone who hasn't done a single, solitary thing yet.. I'm willing to give him a chance to prove himself before I throw him to the wolves..

No matter who is president, we still have the best country in the world. The best part is, we have presidential elections every four years and get a chance to do it all again. Canada is much more politically liberal than the USA, so if its a move to avoid "liberalism", they will find themselves right in the middle of it.

reasons someone might say such things...

Sour Grapes;
Fear of Change;
Die Hard Republican;
PMS

... btw - if they just up and move to Canada, wouldn't that make them illegal immigrants?

Besides, why do they think that Canada would even want them?

Doesn't make much sense to me either. It was much more plausible the other way around. :laughing:

For me, I wanted to be somewhere that was a bit ideologically closer to where I was. Between that, low crime, pleasant cities, and nationalized healthcare, Canada looks pretty attractive sometimes. Plus I just like it there.

DH and I still kick the idea around--we've got enough points to qualify to emigrate, but for the moment we have family and work commitments here. I'm still not ruling it out for someday, though...

I doubt anyone of that particular political belief would be rushing up here to the Great White North, seeing as how we are all crazy socialists with our national healthcare and taxes. :rotfl:

I frequented another board during the last election and I was shocked at the number of people who said they would move to Canada if Bush won. I have only heard one Republican make that statement about Obama and I thought it was just as dumb now as it was then.

I would definitely call myself a Republican, but I am an American first.

Yeah, it just shows how thoughtful they really are. Canada! ha! Socialism run rampant and successful.

My guy won and I'd still like to move out of the country...but that's because we are military and I love the experience! But of course we always end up coming back "home" to the US! :)

I am a democrat (though this year I had to suck it up and vote outside my party) but I get sick over the thought of universal healthcare. Lowering the price and offering alternate type plans is fine but universal- no thank you.
I wil just sit back for the next 4 years laughing at all the things BO says he will do that will not get done- just like EVERY other president. BO is not the next coming of the lord like people make him out to be (especially people here on the Dis!) and he will be just like all the rest once he gets in there.

Well, Canada sure has room up in its Northern land......go on up and don't let the door hit you on the way out! That is what I say.
