I didn't realized I had booked a week long stay at Typhoon Lagoon!

Just got back on Saturday evening from a week long stay in the World. As many others have already stated, it rained ALL week long, ALL day long! I was there from May 16th to the 23rd, staying at the Wilderness Lodge, but it seemed more like Typhoon Lagoon. I know many will say that a rainy week in Disney is better than a sunny week at home, and I tell you, your wrong. Its not better, for me anyways. When I go to Florida to get away from Chicago, I want sun and warmth. I didn't get either of those things during my week long stay.

Another problem that arises during all the rain, is that if there is lightning within so many miles of WDW, they close down many of the attractions in the parks. So for example, at MK, Space Mountain, TTA and HOP are already closed for refurb, but now Swiss Family Treehouse, Jungle Cruise, Splash Mountain, Dumbo, Carpets of Aladdin, Carousel and BTMRR are all closed. So now everyone whos staying in the park is relegated to the only 5 or 6 attractions left, so now your stuck with longer than normal waits for stuff that is usually just a walk-on. And you might be thinking that the parks would be dead in such a storm, but due to the fact that it was raining for how many days prior and the upcoming days are all rain as well, people on their vacations have no choice but to just deal with it and stay in the parks or be prisoners in their hotel rooms. So I didn't notice the parks thinning out at all during the storms and on the contrary, the wait times were increased due to mass ride closures.

What else? Well, over at the WL, the geyser didn't work all week either. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but when your trapped in your room for so much time of day it would atleast be nice to sit on the balcony and watch the geyser. Thats part of the WL's charm, but alas, no geyser.

All in all, the vacation was a bust and the worst I've taken to WDW. but atleast now on future vacations when things aren't going well I can say "Atleast its not as bad as that time in May when it rained all week!"

The Magic Kingdom is in complete disarray right now with those numerous rides under rehab and lots of facades under rehab as well with many tarps up.

Also, over at the AK, we rode Everest on Wednesday and that ride is in shambles as well. No mist, the yeti obviously is still broken and even the shadow effect projected on the wall was not on. You just heard the audio of it but there was no projection. Right before getting on, we were hunkered under an overhang and met a couple who had been waiting 3 hours to get on the ride ( it had been raining and the ride was shut down ) because it was their first time to AK and they wanted to see the star attraction of that park. They eventually gave up and left, and then like 5 minutes later the attraction opened, so Im sure they probably went back to go and ride it and all I could think was what they must have thought since they didn't get to see what the ride is supposed to be like.

The fireworks and parades kept getting delayed all week and we tried watching Spectro, but it was just raining and raining and we couldn't bare getting wet anymore so we just left.

Lastly, on a positive note, I didn't have to see Stitchs show in Tomorrowland and we did ride American Idol and were pleasantly surprised by it. My brother and myself are NOT AI watchers and have never even seen a full episode, but we were there in the rain and it was a building with cover so we decided to jump in line since they were loading people in. We saw the finale show and enjoyed it and would see another show again. The only concern I have is if the judges use the same phrases for each show it would take away the feeling of it being spontaneous. Obviously I've only seen one show so I don't know if the Simon character uses the same lines all day or not, but thats what will make or break this for me. I'd probably see one show per trip in the future.

Toy Story had a long wait as expected, but we didn't mind as much as it was keeping us out of the rain.

Well thats about it, I guess I have an excuse to go back, but its just ashame as I splurged on WL this trip and wasn't able to really enjoy it. Oh one other thing about the WL, for some reason they feel it necessary to now have a DJ out by the main pool playing POP music. Im booking the WL because I want that atmosphere of being in the back woods, so I don't want to be listening to Fergie and Hannah Montana as I walk around the courtyard. I love the WL music that they play but its drowned out by the DJ now.

Oh and WL bus transportation is not good either. The WL shares a bus with the Grand Floridian for every trip except MK. It takes a good hour to get to DTD from WL. You have to go to GF, then to Typhoon Lagoon, then finally to DTD. I remember sharing buses at WL before, but not on every trip. I dont understand why they would make the resort share buses when its so far from the other parks. Its already a far ride, so why make it longer by sharing a bus. It would seem to make more sense that if your close to the park, you would share a bus, if your far from the park its a direct bus. I dono, maybe its just me?!

Well thats all, if anyone has any questions I'll be happy to answer.

Oh and my poncho didn't rip.

Sorry your trip was a bust. The rain this past week was not normal for Florida. Look forward to your next visit. I'm sure the weather will be better!

What a huge bummer! Sooooo sorry you had a bad trip! I've had one bad trip but it had nothing to do with Disney (more like my travel companions). It was miserable none the less.

You found the bright spot though, on all of your future trips, you will be able to say, "well at least it's not as bad as that May trip where it rained the whole time!" It totally works, because no matter what happens on my trips, it can not be as miserable as that June trip in 2003! lol It's good to remind yourself it can always be worse, and hopefully that was the worst it will ever get for you, I sure hope I've experienced my worst in June of 2003!

Thanks for the heads up about the busses at WL. Do the busses pick up at WL first or GF? We are staying at GF for the first time in a few weeks, if the busses are that bad we will drive to the parks, we will have a AAA Diamond Pass, but will have to wait for valet to bring the car around, so I'm not sure how much time driving will save me.

I've always said I love when it rains at Disney World but from all I've read from people who were there recently, I guess this would be the exception. Sorry about your trip. Hope you can go back soon! pixiedust:

Sorry to hear about your trip! I agree, although I don't mind the rain in the summer, the rain the past week sounds like a nightmare!

I always go to WDW in July or August, that way I am assured of having warm weather (though it does rain quite a bit in the afternoons). Orlando is pretty far north in Florida and I never want to take the chance of a cold front because I HATE when it is cold! This is late in the year for it to be cold though!

Bummer about the geiser at WL too! :sad2:

I feel so so bad for all the people who dealt with rain for an entire week ruining their vacation. :sad2:
I always hear how rain is no big deal...but I would have to disagree. I could deal with it, and my 12 year old might even enjoy it, but for my 5 year old with respiratory issues (and who also freaks out when wet!) it would have been a killer. We would have been trapped at the hotel the entire time so as not to give her pneumonia and a stress induced heart attack.
And like you said...with attractions closed what good is it if you brave the rain anyway - you still can't do many things.

It just sucks. I'm so glad we've been blessed with good weather when we've gone or I would have been in tears for months and likely scarred from wanting to go back! We left WDW like 3 days before the rains started...never had a drop during our visit.

So sorry to hear about your disappointing trip! Pixie Dust that your next one will be even more magical then previous trips!

We were at WL at the end of April/beginning of May and didn't have any of the issues you had. We were in the villas, so mainly used that pool, but we ate at Roaring Fork plenty of times and never heard the DJ ... all I can say is YUCK! what are they thinking?!?!? I couldn't agree more with you about the resort theme music, its our favorite. We had a working geyser, too, wonder what happened? If you give WL another try just avoid the main pool and visit us over at the quiet pool ... its usually pretty empty!

As for the buses ... we only shared with GF for DTD and AK. MGM we stopped at Fort Wilderness before getting to WL on the return trips, and for Epcot we didn't stop anywhere else. We never had a stop at the waterparks, either, but that was due to the way we worked things. When got off at AK and then the bus headed to TL and we didn't take the bus back to WL, we headed to Epcot for dinner and then to WL from there. By the time we went to DTD, BB was already closed for the day so we got lucky on both of those trips.

MK wasn't much better when we were there ... all those canvases and tarps everywhere! We pretty much stayed in Fantasyland and Toontown, though, with a few (15!!) trips on Buzz ... but then agasin we have a 5, 3 and 1 year old.

At least your poncho didn't rip! ;)

You know what. I can totally see where you are coming from. People always say that a rainy day in WDW is better than a day at home. I bet that 90% of the people here haven't experienced an entire vacation of rain. I'm sure that's the case when there is 1 day of rain during a week long vacation but not every day.

So sorry to hear about your trip. Being from Chicago too I can understand your point about the weather. Hope next time is much better!

Ahh - sorry you didn't have a good time :(

We just got back yesterday from a 4 day vacation at WDW. It's the first time I've been there where it has rained every day! We luckily missed the "full day rain" days but it did rain for a good portion of our trip. Hope your future trips are better!

We were at WDW during Fay last year and had about 7 days of rain followed by 7 days of sunshine. We actually really enjoyed the 7 days of rain, which would be an entire vacation to some, but like I said, this last while seems to be the exception to the rule.

From one DJ to another (not sure if your name is DJ but its mine) sorry to hear your trip was kind of a bust. We needed the rain here in Florida, but not that much rain for crying out loud. Only about once every couple years does it rain for that many days straight, and even then it usually stops at night. Sorry luck wasnt on your side. Hopefully next trip will more than make up for it:thumbsup2
