LOL, yikes, this thread still has life in it. As I said last night,........A pretty novel idea, ToV, very creative, I liked it, thinking out of the box.

And yes, my mom and dad helped us sort, and check, our goodies after T&T, back in the late 40's/early 50's, when I was a toddler. We got all sorts of things in addition to candy. Thank God I survived, at least IMO.

And Snoop, I sure did have some fun times with you and the boys, most memorable I think, Cape may Cafe. Thanks for the memory jog.

ToV, if I ever go T&T in your neighborhood, I am hoping for a nice rock.

here's a really crazy idea, if you forget to buy candy, rather than turning out the lights, print up coupons that say, I'm sorry I forgot to buy candy, please bring this coupon back Saturday afternoon for a free candy bar..

well I skimmed through these "ideas" that were posted on this thread. Froggy and I have seen rocks, toothbrushes, toothpaste samples,pecans,(in a city that has more pecan trees than houses.) ink pens, pencils, whistles, apples(complete with spots) glow sticks, stickers, CHEESE, valentines and other holiday candy most of which was the chalky white color and slightly fuzzy. We even had a sandwich bag of stale oreos. The point is that parents check the candy first and pay ATTENTION WHILE T&T is going on. Personally if a kid can't tell the difference between a ROCK and a piece of candy you have more serious issues to deal with. BY THE WHO the bag of pecans was a trick by a friend and the kids LOVED IT thought it was hilarious.

I DON'T get the original Target thing. Is she trying to say Target wouldn't sell her candy because she pre-wrote a check? Is there a particular reason she couldn't go somewhere else to get candy? I mean, it must have taken a fair amount of time to go to a park and get rocks.....no ATM's nearby?????

Me too! Ireally want to know why she didn't just buy the candy at Target? Mine sells candy.....I'm gonna lose sleep over this....somebody please explain!

I think the Target thing is that she writes a check for $20. She buys $18 worth of stuff and they give her the change from the $20. She must not have had enough money to get candy.

I don't think your evil and I wouldn't call the police on you but I think giving out rocks is kind of mean.

Boy, 12, Assaulted Over Candy

SIMSBURY -- The good-natured frights normally associated with Halloween turned violent Sunday night for one 12-year-old boy trick-or-treating on Phelpscoft Road.

Two teens carrying skateboards beat, kicked and dragged the boy across the quiet street as they tried to wrest a candy-filled pillowcase from his hands, police said.

The two were arrested after the boy and his mother flagged down a police officer on patrol around 8:30 p.m., about a half-hour after the incident.

Police charged Colin Mulhaul, 16, of 9 Newbury Court, with second-degree robbery, third-degree assault and criminal attempt at second-degree larceny. Police said Mulhaul denied any involvement in the incident.

The other, a 15-year-old, was referred to juvenile court.

Outfitted in a Halloween costume, the boy was walking along Phelpscroft Road about 8 p.m. with a group of his friends when he felt a tug on his pillowcase, police said.

It was Mulhaul and his 15-year-old friend who both grabbed hold of his pillowcase, kicked, punched and grabbed him, police said.

The boy was dragged nearly 100 feet, Officer Nicholas Boulter said. He did not lose hold of his candy.

My dd collected rocks as a kid (and she wasn't very discriminating either, she'd find treasures in the driveway, lol) and I think she'd have liked getting a rock as well as getting a pencil or toothbrush. I would have thought it was a little odd but she would have been fine with it.

Because as an oppressed person and a person who says she was a geek (a misfit) she shouldn't continue to oppress and make others miserable, that's why.

That's why I said "where is the love?" In other words, why continue making others miserable. It's very ironic.

Does it really matter, though, what we all think? Obviously, the OP doesn't care to even respond while we just go back and forth. Now that is funny.

I just saw a story on the news about a child who found a 14 carat diamond ring in his trick or treat bag. Now that's a rock!!!!!!! Apparently it fell off a lady's finger when she was giving out candy. The boy's family notified the police and they located the owner.

I was wondering what this thread was about, but I was afraid to click on it.

Atleast we have no political undertones on this one.

My nephew called me to tell me about all of the candy that he got. He also ended up with some money too. Which he was thrilled about. He always makes origami creatures for me and trys to sell them for a small fee. Until he gets yelled at, and has to just give them away for free.LOL! He didn't mention getting any rocks, though!

now easter is the best way to give pretty rocks out. just get some grass and put them all over the place. kids will love it! They will know not to eat them as well, kids always now what to do!

What is this world coming to if people think that putting rocks in the trick or treat bag of a CHILD is acceptable?

Oh I see! We have 'geek' definition problems. I have never thought of geeks as misfits myself. I always thought of them as folks with their own kind of cool, lol.

If you come begging at the door, you get what you get! It is not like she tampered with food or gave away cigarettes (which someone near me did one year ). Lighten up and stop trying to protect your little ones from every perceived "slight". They too will have to live in the real world someday.

BTW, my DS loves rocks and probably would have insisted on keeping the rock he received for Halloween.

Question for all those commending the OP for her clever idea, if next year everyone in your neighborhood "thought outside the box" and gave out rocks and your kids got a big bagful of rocks, would you still think "How cool! My child got a bagful of Charlie Brown rocks!"

Not likely to happen, I am sure, but would you be happy about that? I just truly don't see the humor, the cleverness, the coolness about this. I think it was a stupid, mean, idea quite frankly. One meant not to make kids happy about her "joke", but one so she could laugh at the kids. I don't get the support for this "idea" at all.
