I didn't give out candy..I gave out ROCKS!

You can't rely on kids not to sample the "candy" before parents have a chance to go through it. Popcorn balls may be a choking hazard (but that's not too likely) but rocks? I, too, would have called the police so damn fast your head would swim. I am appalled.

I actually have quite a good sense of humor, but I certainly don't find any humor with what you did. As a matter of fact, I posted on another thread how someone put rocks in an empty box of Junior Mints and handed those out.

First of all, and no, I don't have a web site to support this...
I believe the "trick" or "treat" means give me a treat or I'm giving YOU a trick. I don't think it means, "Hey lady, give me a trick or a treat."
Rocks? Glad you don't live in my neighborhood.

And to the poster who had a neighbor that filled a Junior Mint box with small rocks....that IS a reason to call the police...just as bad as a razor blade inside an apple in my opinion. My 4 year old is allowed to open a box of Junior Mints if he wanted to and if he got a mouth full of rocks, my cul-de-sac would have a road full of cops. Luckily, I live in a neighborhood full of people with holiday spirit, money to buy actual candy, and sense and intelligence enough to not want to harm children or at the very least upset them or get a laugh out of their expense.

Sorry to disagree with Dan, who I always agree with, but "thinking out of the box" would have meant either shutting her light off or telling the kids "Mr. Other Villainess will be back in a few minutes with the candy! Come back to my house LAST!"

I would have gone to the police on charges of Child Endangerment and I'd make sure to point out which house my child received the rock from.

Will you find it humorous if your child comes home from Trick or Treating with Rocks? A Razor Blade in an apple? Candy tampered with Angel Dust?

Congratulations. You win the contest for most pathetic Halloween giveaway.

MTE!::yes:: Anyone that would give a child ROCKS is missing a few "rocks" themselves! There is no humor in this - a child could have choked on one, broke their tooth or ingested it.......doing that is just sick!!!!!!

A pretty novel idea, ToV, very creative, I liked it, thinking out of the box.

I don't. I think it is something some of those horrible people on those shows on MTV would do.:(

:(

You know trick-or-treat was cancelled in my town because there was still too much hurricane debris for them to get from house to house safely. But I guess no candy is better than rocks.

Halloween always started the ball rolling for us that just kept right on until Christmas. Remember...

He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows if you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness sake.

Happy holiday season...

LOL - I was gonna say the same thing!

I truly hope none of those children tried to BITE
one of your rocks - you do know that you can buy candy
that looks exactly like polished pebbles, don't you??
If not, you do now & I hope next year you're prepared
or you just don't turn your lights on...

You both took the words right out of my mouth... you're so lucky you didn't get the rock thrown back at you...

I have a wicked sick sense of humor...but I don't get giving out rocks?? what's with that???

If I was unable to hand out some kind of treat(whether it be candy or stickers or pencils or whatever) Iwould have probably turned my light off.

Stop laughing. No...really. I mean it.

Over the last few years, I had gotten into the habit of pre-writing my checks when I went to Target to avoid spending too much. If the amount of the check was less than 20$ more than the total of hte purchase, they gave you cash back. Well..no more. So..I didn't have any candy for the kids. On the way home from work tonight, I stopped by a park and got a good size handful of smallish rocks. Clean ones..no mud or dirt on them.

So that's what I handed out until DH got home with the candy, by which point most of the trick or treaters had already gone by.

Yes..I really did give out rocks.

TOV

You must be so proud of yourself posting it here ....

what a motherly thing to do.

(insert sarcasm)

Really, I don't find any humor in this because obviously you're laughing AT them instead of WITH them. Big difference.

Comparing this to a MTV-style prank and "thinking outside of the box" is ludicrous to me. These are kids!

Your son is still young. May he never encounter your kind of "humor" or disappointment like this ....

You may want to consider buying candy a little earlier than on Halloween day itself .

Well, I felt bad because I didn't have anything to give them except the rocks and I didn't have any small change that is readily accessible. The only bank we have in the house is one I made from an old can of formula with the top superglued down to lessen the chance of myself or DH breaking into it.

Plus...the kids who did show up and got a rock already had at least a halfbag full of candy at that point. It's not like I was depriving them of more sugar. They're going to go home, empty the bag out and go.."Wait a minute. I got a rock???"

By the time DH got home with his $16 bucks worth of candy, everybody was gone. We had I think 2 or 3 kids show up after DH arrived home.

Are you serious? I would be a little concerned when my kids told me what you gave out. You would be on the "do not go near house" list! I'm just hoping your joking?

Wow, how sad that you think giving kids rocks is funny. I do not see anything funny about it at all. Kids (especially the little ones) are so excited about Trick or Treating and the candy that I can't believe you think it was fun to give them rocks. Why would you brag about this? Next year just turn out the lights.

I have to agree, turn out your lights if you have no candy to give out! I just don't get what is funny about giving out rocks to little kids

What if one of those little kids thought your stupid idea was a piece of candy and ate it.

Personally I hope you get a bigger rock through your window. Now thats funny!

(Are you serious?)

Remember the "rules"? We're supposed to check the candy before the kids eat it. And anything not in a wrapper gets pitched!
Handing out rocks isn't something I would have done (except maybe to the teenagers!), but it's not THAT bad! I think most kids would be a little miffed when they dumped the bag and saw a ROCK!! Not mad...but they'd probably just wonder "what the heck?"!

Major choking hazard and totally inappropriate.
I hope your little prank doesnt cause someone harm.

Now really, I think that some of you are making this out to be far worse than it is. I got the joke right away, The great Pumpkin! In this day and age every parent MUST check the bag before your child eats anything. And do you really believe that a child who is old enough to trick or treat is going to try and eat a rock. What if the rock had been painted like a pumpkin? Would that have been ok? All I can say is it's a good thing that we don't post our address, because I fear that some of you would chuck a rock through the OP's window and then call CPS! If a child saw a rock they would look at it and then push it aside to get to the candy!

Of course your suposed to check your kids candy, but what if the kid snuck into the bag before he/she got home.

It was totally stupid idea. It's people like that, that cause trick-or-treat to become a thing of the past. Then once again the kids get screwed over.

WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING
