I Despise Fireworks

I have a 24hr fireworks stand about 1 mile from my house, it opened June 20th at midnight. So people are shooting all the time here.

I don't mind the noise but I love to light off the fountains.;)

Unless they professional like at Disney or part of a parade/concert. I live behind a park, and every year the fireworks start at the end of June. They are most often late at night and in secret. By the time the police are called they are usually over, but not before my kitties have been spooked, or we have been startled or woken up. Last night was bad.
I don't really understand the lure of fireworks. It is just noise pollution to me, and an extension of kids being rowdy or adults being drunk. And the litter it leaves behind is horrible. Yuck. :sad2:

I agree! Fireworks produce noise pollution. Include in creation of noise pollution, loud motorcycles. I do not understand why people enjoy loud useless noise. :confused3

I'm only interested in fireworks at WDW. The rest bore me to tears.

Ugh, finally, people who feel the same way.

I hate fireworks. I hate that chest-thumping boom.

Now, Disney fireworks were great. The rest, ugh.

Hate them
I don't mind sparklers -but the noisy things drive me crazy.

Our much missed lab had to be sedated every year.
I would also spend the next day picking up bottle rockets from the yard.
Also 20,000 ER visit a year from firework injuries.
And with us having a drought every few years they seem irresponsible.
Also -not everyone has the next day after a holiday off -so you are keeping neighbors awake that may have to work the next day or have small children

Ok I will get off my soap box now ;)

And, since Clarabelle got off her soap box...I'm going to hop on: I agree 100%, although for our lab mix - we call them "happy pills".

While I am not a clinical person, I do work for a major trauma center. The 4th of July stories I have heard send a chill up my spine. Many "eye" related incidents as well as "hands blown off" happen. Every year.

I dread about the next 2 weeks. Really dread them. If you must...(and this is to my specific neighbors)...just blow off your stash of fireworks on the 3rd and 4th ...and just be done with it until next year.

I'll get off the soapbox now...anyone else want it???

I love fireworks, I love feeling the boom of them. Disney's are great and they're hard to live up to. But I still like watching other displays of them. Growing up in Miami, we would go to the FIU stadium in north miami beach to watch thier display. Of course you went around 4pm or so and they had a bunch of kid activities and really yummy food. They were usually set off around 9:30. So we would go home and set off our own.

I do hate annoying people that have to go all night long about it. We would set ours off in the alley way/drive way. Plenty of pavement, no one drove through the alley besides the garbage men, and the hose was very handy. The debris was always picked up before the next one was shot off, and no one has ever gotten hurt.
I love fire and I love shooting off fireworks, and I won't do any that are extremely dangerous. And courtersy enough to not do it at all hours of the night. I'd love to be a pyro for Disney. Although since we've moved up here, we've always watched the Magic Kingdom fireworks. They really go a great job for the fourth. And last year they even had a convention of pyros that had thier own display go up in front of the Contemporary a couple of hours before Disney's.

I hate, hate, hate them as well!!! They're illegal here in MA, but people drive over the boarder of NH to stock up and then light them here..... I get so afraid when I see the embers/pieces landing in my yard/on my roof.... paranoid that they'll start a fire :confused3 esp. since we have so many trees.

Like you said, by the time the police are called, those lighting them are gone....

Ohh if any one is ever in south florida for the fourth or new years, and you don't want to deal with the booms and noises of them...
Head out on i-75 towards aligator alley. You don't have to pay the toll to get out far enough. But as you get to the top of one of the few bridges, park your car on the side of the road facing east. You can see the displays from South Miami to West Palm Beach. It's the coolest thing ever. You don't have any of the booms and such, but you can see them really good.
My mom heard from the stargazer guy on PBS that new years eve if you were out of the city, you'd be able to see the eclipse of jupiter or something like that. Never saw it, but it was worth it to see all the fireworks going on.

Some of the cities around here put on some amazing fireworks displays. They spend a fortune and the only bad part is deciding which one to see because I love good fireworks.

As for the small ones, I used to love roman candles but I know how dangerous they can be. I just always hope that people are careful.
