I desperately need advice....

You're absolutey right!

This girl, really has some nerves! She doesn't call me, she communicates with me through email or cell phone text messaging.
She just text messaged me with, "when is it ok to come pick up Gigi today?"
She apparently must have not read my last email or is playing it off.

Well, Gigi got her shots and microchip today and is being spayed tomorrow at 8am...What do you think about that?

I can't believe she text messaged you that today! People never cease to amaze me:confused3

Didn't she have to be asleep to have the microchip installed? My dog got "chipped" after she was spay, so maybe it was like that because she was already sleeping.

That woman is nuts! I would make sure that you are with the dogs at all times, because she could try to steal Gigi from your yard.

You did the right thing by keeping the dog; it is much better off.

As for the poster that question how long it can take to bond with a pet, I was in love with mine from the moment I got them.

No, they don't have to be asleep. It's given as an injection. Our dog had it done before we ever picked her up from the breeder.

Woah, fascinating story. I do understand the feelings of the original owner and the two posters who think the dog should be given back. They are all thinking that this clown (the original owner) is so sad about not having her dog anymore. Well the clown is a deceitful, uncaring, and irresponsible dog owner who not only doesn't deserve her dog back, but is not legally entitled to the dog back. She gave it away to them and in this case posession is 9/10ths (maybe 10/10ths) of the law. the OP has cared for this animal, provided necessary veterinary care and made it a part of her family in a very short time. There is not a soul among us who has not declared that their newest addition is a member of the family just HOURS after bringing them home.

OP, you are doing right by the dog and right by your family. Watch GIGI like a hawk as I suspect there will be some attempts to retrieve her. I would imagine that the police may even be called to help "collect" her. Have all of your veterinary documentation as well as ALL the e-mails, printed up and handy for when the clown or the cops show up.

Good luck and DO keep us informed.

My first thought was that the former owner of the dog would try to snatch the dog from the yard. If she'll lie to a friend in order to get out of paying boarding fees, etc., she'll think nothing of taking back what is, in her mind, rightfully hers.

You're doing the right thing for this dog, OP! Good luck to you, and please keep us updated. :)

This is very good advice.

She is texting you and emailing you because she doesn't want to talk to you.

Who ever said she didn't board because she needed proof of vaccinations was absolutely correct.

That's exactly why she begged you to take the dog. Kennels require proof of current vaccinations to board pets. She was too cheap to care for her pet properly. You also mentioned the dog has an umbilical hernia. This can happen more frequently with puppies purchased from unreliable sources like pet shops who stock their cages with dogs from puppy mills. Dogs with a hernia should NEVER be bred. Period. Even if the hernia heals up without surgery.

I am glad you're keeping the dog. Make sure you keep printed emails handy indicating her clear intent to give the dog to you. Maintain your resolve and I hope she comes to her senses and stops contacting you. Remember, you agreed to take to the dog on the premise she could no longer keep the pet and that you did so with the understanding this was a permanent transfer. That's the end of that.

:cutie:

Any update from the girl today?? Did she text again about picking up the dog?

You should put the dog to sleep and then send it's body back to the owner with a note attached "Don't ever do that to me again"

It works...true story..:scared:

I really hope you are kidding...'cause that's more than just a little sick.

This posted is a troll. Please ignore whatever is said.

Edited to add - I think the mods have taken care of this poster, so I have deleted the quote I referenced here.

:thumbsup2 you are doing the right thing. Now lock your doors and dont answer the phone until 8 am tomorrow. Good lcuk and great job - the dog is VERY lucky to have you!

She's texting you now so that she can pretend she didn't get your last email. I would ignore it. If she does it again, then you can text "check your email."

ETA: You know, OP, I'm wondering if you should contact the police not to file any complaint but perhaps to ask them what to do. That way if she does contact the police, then you're on record already. Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

I think that's a good idea.

OP, any word yet?

It's not often that I will read an 8-page thread from beginning to end in one sitting, but I made an exception in this case. OP,you are totally right in keeping this dog. You go girl!!!!!!
