Hey everyone, rather than risk taking my passport with me whenever i wanna go buy some alcohol or anything, do they accept our British Driving Licenses (the photo ones) as proof of i.d at the various shops and clubs?

Also 1 of our party only has a provisional license, would that be acceptable too?

Thanks very much in advance :thumbsup2

The driving licence with photo is ok to use for cashing tc but as we don't use the clubs i can't advise on that.

Yes I have used DL photocard for ID with alcohol and no problem as that is the most accepted form of ID in the US anyway :)

My Mum doesn't drive, she carried a photocopy of her passport with her and although she was never challenged when purchasing alcohol (she's 57 :thumbsup2 ) she did use it for financial transactions.

Photocard driving licences are accepted as proof of age when in bars etc so you will not have a problem. Sorry cannot comment on the provisional one (unless its a photocard). I would strongly advise against taking your passport anywhere with you.

Full or Provisional UK driving licences will be OK as long as the are the Photo ID type. These will be accepted in pubs/clubs and shops.

FYI - anyone who is trying to purchase alcohol and looks under 30 y.o. will probably be ID'd.;)

everone should cary photo id in usa its there law, even if your not driving and have a photo licence would recomend takeing it.I always remeber when asked for id for cashing a TC once, and had to send DW to car to get it.asked what would happen over in the uk if you had an accident and you had no id on you,how would they find out who you were.

Me and my wife only hold paper driving licences. Would a photocopy of our passports be good enough for id? Don't really like the idea of carrying round our passports. Although, on previous trips to Florida, when cashing tc's we were only asked once for id and that was in McDonalds?:confused3

Yes, a photocopy of your Passport should suffice in most cases. Each store or bar has its own policies as to what they would accept but most of the time a photocopy will be accepted. The key is that it has your photo on it as well as your date of birth. You'd run into most problems if you're very young looking (and thus could be under age 21).

Fingers crossed it'll be ok! Plus the UK passports d.o.b bit is shown in this format e.g "01 Feb / Fev 1980" so if you flash them a copy of it then the month will be spelt out for them to save any confusion :teacher:
