For some reason, when I open some posts on the Community Board, I get an error message that says: iexplore has caused an error in MSHTML.DLL and will now close. Then I click on the Close button and Internet Explorer (V 5.5) and thus the DIS closes. This ONLY happens on the Community Board (so far) and I visit a lot of websites and other boards all the time.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this happening? I'll contact MSN next but I though I would check and see if anything like this has ever come up before. Thanks.

Sounds like a new one to me Planogirl.

I haven't had any problems on the CB using either Netscape or I.E.

Maybe Mr. Cricket can give us a little insight into the meaning of that error message. What do 'ya think JC?

mshtml.dll is the "parsing" engine for Windows IE. It's your "translator". Since you don't speak HTML, it reads the code sent to your browser and displays images so you can see them (basicaly, this is a very abbreviated explination).

Generaly this error is caused by old incompatable video drivers but there are also other reasons too. I need to know more about your PC before I can suggest a way to fix it.

I am so glad you're here, Mr. JC. :D

<font color=navy>JC,

I just had Windows ME put in (not by choice, Bob :p ), and I have been experiencing the same problem with some windows. I've just been sighing, and reopening. What you said makes sense because though I may have more than one window open, just one will close. Sometimes it happens in chat, and sometimes on the boards.

MJ: The ME problem may be a seperate issue. You may need a newer version of IE that is more compatible with ME. I don't have any ME units here, so I can't be sure what the incompatable version # was. I know that this has been an issue before though. Check the Microsoft site for the exact details. You can always run the Windows update too. That can't hurt much.

OMG...I thought I was the only one who had this problem!!! I get these all time, but only from posts that I have replied to...when I go to open them up after I have replied, I get the error message as well! I just click ok and the browser closes and then I open the DIS up again...I hate it, but I thought it was just my computer...

Any suggestions JC??

There are many things that can cause the error, and there is more than one fix. Microsoft will tell you to upgrade to the most current IE (probably) but that can take a while (big file) as well as goof up other Windows stuff. For me to suggest any quick fix would be improper and irresponsible. I would have to look up each set of symptoms on a case-by-case basis to tell you an exact fix for each situation.

All that I can say without hesitation is that there IS a problem with IE for ME and that it gives this specific error.

Try to look up your exact error at http://www.microsoft.com and see what it tells you to do. I can try to translate what they say if you need me to.

JC

This is a known problem with ME and the version of IE 5.5 that comes with it, you need to upgrade to a later build of IE 5.5 or go directly to IE 6 from the microsoft web site

See, now that he said it so will I. ;)

Thank you Mr Cricket and Webmaster Alex! I will try updating as suggested. I do have Windows ME but it never occurred to me that this was one of the problems that ME causes.

Here's hoping that it works or maybe I'll end up downgrading to a lesser version of Windows like some people have from what I hear. I'm certainly sorry that others are having this problem but I'm kind of relieved that it's not just me.

I don't have ME and it happens to me too. I thought my hubby was messing with my computer and messed it up again.

Serena: I would still give you the same advice for now.

JC

Well there you have it, at least I'm not the only one it's happening to!

But why does it only happen on the CB???

I have no clue about that. Maybe Mr. J Cricket could answer that one. He'll be back Monday or Tues. :)
