I could use some advice on a dinner suggestion please

We are starting off our late April trip with a couple of nights at AKL (then switiching to the GF for the remainder). I am struggling trying to decide on a good dinner option while at AKL. I am planning on Tusker House breakfast on Saturday morning. Boma sounds interesting, but a bit exotic for a buffet. Jiko sounds good too, but we are traveling with a 4 and 5 year old....is it appropiate for kids?

What are your thoughts? We are planning AK on Saturday and really want to stay near the resort and relax afterwards. Is there a good option CS wise we should consider before leaving the park, and a snack later at the resort??

Tusker House is great but remember, it is not in the resort but in the park itself. Also, Boma breakfast is not exotic IMO. I also think there is enough "normal" stuff on the dinner buffet at Boma as long as you are not a super picky eater. And there is kids stuff too. I think Jiko is great but appropriate for kids I would say no. Of course they are allowed and always invited, I just don't agree that APPROPRIATE is the word I would use. Yak and Yet at AK is a great option for TS or CS. Also, Flame Tree BBQ at AK for CS is good. I do believe that AKL has a CS place that is pretty good. The bar at AKL has some good snacks too. What else do you have planned for the trip dining wise?

Oh yeah, I forgot about Rainforest Cafe. It is right at the entrance of AK. I hate it but lots of people including kids love it.

Don't immediately rule out Boma because it sounds exotic. The names of the dishes are a bit odd but the food itself is really good. Trust me, I am not an adventurous eater but Boma is one of the favorites in our family for everyone from carnivores to vegetarians to picky eaters to kids who live on nothing but junk food.

Boma is an excellent, varied buffet. There are stds like mac and cheese, chicken fingers, etc. as well as meats, fish, outstanding fresh made soups on the soup bar. My only regret with Boma was not having room for more. :thumbsup2

I would suggest a lighter breakfast at the Mara, hit the parks then back home for dinner. There are some great kids activities in the evening at AKL, so don't miss them.

I would say that it depends on your 4 and 5 year old whether or not to take them to Jikos. I would take my children to most restraunts I have not been there I guess it would depend if it is more like the dining room at wolf gang pucks or like the brown derby. I take my kids to the brown derbey but would not take them to the wgp dining room at least 2 of them would not go.

In my opinion, DAK has the best CS places in WDW. My personal favorite is the Flame Tree BBQ but I also like Pizzafari

Boma is amazing. You will not regret going there. I have taken several people who are not daring diners and it has never dissappointed

Kona Breakfast
LTT lunch
and we have a CRT breakfast reserved.

I was thinking Tusker House because we all enjoyed the food last trip. Since we will be at AK on Sat. morning it seemed like a good fit.

okay regarding Boma...we are picky eaters. I hate to spend $$ on such a fab buffet when all we will eat is mac and cheese and chicken. We are filets and potatos kind of folks

I like to schedule character things for the kids, but I also want to feed dh well on the trip - gotta keep him happy so he wants to keep coming back LOL!

I am really interested in Boma though...does anyone know of any links to pictures??

There are carving stations at Boma, there is plenty of meat, salmon, chicken, potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, pap, veggies, etc.

We LOVED Narcoossee's too!

We had lunch at Coral Reef in Epcot, but you could have dinner there. A great park break, really good food and the aquarium was great entertainment for our 6yo. OK I will really share here...we ate EVERYTHING plus two baskets of bread at Coral Reef. The food was good and we were starved...lol Mom had the Strawberry stinger for a beverage and they refilled it, not sure they were supposed to do that on the DP. Our little guy had a soft drink and his straw had a blue dolphin holder, it was cool and he loved it. So while not a character meal, the kids can have some fun there, DH can get a good steak and you'll get a break because everything is brought to you. Our 6yo had cheese pizza there, he loves pizza.

DH and I stayed AKL in Oct and LOVED our dinner at Jiko and are huge fans of the Boma breakfast but didnt like their dinner at all

There was nothing wrong with the food, it just wasnt to our tastes. I have a ton of pics and full review in my Oct link.

I really really love Boma breakfast and I really wanted to love the dinner there too but it was pretty blah

Since you are "filet" people, you really should go to Jiko. Their signature meal is the Filet and Macaroni & Cheese so you will probably love it. I think it is fine for kids, but not exciting for them or anything. The food is good, the atmosphere is nice and it's very relaxing. My son loved his cheese pizza!

If you don't want to have dinner at Boma, you should try it for breakfast. It is by far my favorite breakfast in all of WDW, and quite possibly all of the world! It is very good, and convenient while you are staying at AKL.

Yak & Yeti is great for lunch at the Animal Kingdom too. We absolutely loved our lunch there, it is definitely on our list of favorites now.

Jiko is our favorite restaurant in WDW. Only you cn judge if it is appropriate for your children. It is an upscale dining experience and quieter than many other Disney restaurants. Will they be happy sitting quietly at the table for 1 1/2 - 2 hours, the average dinner time? If so than by all means take them.
As an alternative, DS and my Grandkids at at the Tusker House over Thanksgiving. They loved it. It was DS's favorite meal of the trip, even more so than Thanksgiving dinner at Jiko.
There is also the Mara at the AKL, which is a food court type of place. It would be good for a light meal and snacks.
We have never eaten at Boma. It just does not appeal to us at all. We too are filet, potatoes and plain veggie type of eaters and there is nothing that appeals to me. I can not help you with a review here.

If it makes any difference, Jiko is a 2 TS credit restaurant (not sure if you're on the DP). Boma is just one. Oh, and BTW, I LOVE IT! My DD (8) is a chicken nuggets type of gal and she also loved it. She tried a lot of the different stuff (to my surprise), and fell in love with the pepper pot soup. She asked to return to Boma as our only repeat on our upcoming trip! (sure hope they have that soup or she's going to be sad :sad1:

I think I may have to take Jiko off the table...1.5 to 2 hours would be difficult for my kids to sit through. Still, I'm just not sold on Boma. Back to the drawing board...I am thinking maybe something at AK before we leave?
