Hey Ya'll,

I swear luck is not on my side with planning this vacation!

We are currently booked at the CBR using the FTP from 9/13 - 9/21. I actually mailed in our final balance today as it is due July 30th. We almost missed booking the FTP due to some family emergencies but finally were able to book on the very last day.

We have not yet bought our airline tickets. We have a car reserved w/National with a "name only" reservation (meaning we did not yet book with a credit card, I just used the name only feature to lock in the rate).

We have an Illuminations Cruise booked for 9/17 with 4 other couples from the DIS Boards joining us. DH has a tee time booked and I have made several PS.

The kicker...

I just found out I may need to fly to LA (we are in NY) at the end of August until Sept 10th, possibly until the 11th or 12th for a business meeting. This is a business meeting that could change my entire career, simply not optional (I am self employed) to not go or postpone it. It is then or never. The real problem is I wont find out until mid August if I have to go.

Just for kicks I called WDW and they do have avail. at the CBR for 9/20 - 9/28... if they charge me the 50.00 fee I am not conerned.

I am so torn on if we should change our dates (it would be find as far as DH getting time off) or just keep things as is. If I do have to go to LA it could potentially mean taking the red eye home on the 11th or 12th then turning around and heading to Orlando just a few hours later. I would hate to spend the first day or two totally jet lagged and beat. On the flip side this meeting could never happen and all thes changing would have been made in vain.

I just cant decide.

Somebody tell me what to do!

If it was me, I'd change the dates now just in case. Because I wouldn't want to have to worry about all the what if's, it would drive me crazy!

Good luck deciding!

Hi, Pug. Weeeelllll... I'm one of those worrywarts and one who likes to have plans be "clean" with no complications! So, I would vote for a change of date since you would incur only a $50 fee. This way, you can relax and know that you will go relaxed and ready for a great WDW vacation. Why take the chance and then have to go to LA and then start your vacation under some type of stress and tiredness. You'd only be delaying your trip by a week. JMHO.

Hello Pug,

I was faced with a similar situation in 2002. I had to fly and meet my DW and DD's at the Poly. They went to Hilton Head over the 4th of July and then on to WDW on the 6th. I met them on the 7th after my business was complete. I took a taxi to the Poly and they were waiting at the Volcano pool for me! (It was very exciting!)

If it will make you more comfortable....by all means spend the extra $50 and change the dates. If you do plan to keep the plans as they are and do the extra flying....make sure they pamper you for all of your efforts! ;)

Remember, with either option...you still end up in Disney World!

Good Luck!

I travel a lot for business. I have done many turnaround trips. So I say just be prepared for the WDW trip before you leave for the business trip.

Knowing that you will be going to WDW when you return will wipe away any jet lag. I have done it several times and it seems I always get the best news when I am in WDW.

So it can be done. Good luck on the business trip. I hope you are very successful.

I think you'd be much more calm if you change dates in order to accomodate the meetings that might happen. In my house I know Murphey's law rules, and this saves you from possibly having too many things going on at once! Plus, a successful pre-Disney meeting will mean a great Disney celebration afterwards! Just my two cents.

Good luck with your career!
Debbie

I'd stick with the original dates. I did a back to back business and Disney trip in February and it wasn't bad at all getting right back on the plane. I know for me, when I am on the road on business I am able to get good sleep in just being relieved of the day-to-day at home. Good luck, whichever way you go.

FYI - not that the $50 is that big a deal - at least considering the size of the vacation - but when I was considering changing my dates ( I am currently booked Sept 19-27) the WDTC told me no fee as long as we were outside of the 45 day mark. So, I think you're ok. If I were you, I would change it to give me peace of mind.

I travel all the time for work.. the way things change around here last minute, I wouldn't worry a bit. Keep things the same. Worst case scenario is that your husband takes the kids and you meet them in Orlando. You can do a ticket from your home city to meeting city, to Orlando and back to home city. Cost is usually low enough to make it worth your while.

Don't worry about it - it will work out fine!!

have fun!

Thanks so much everybody for sharing your ideas and opinions.. very much appreciated!

I have a meeting (another traveling meeting) July 25 - July 28th. I am hoping that after that meeting I will have more of an idea of exactly how probable the late Aug/early Sept meeting will be. As of now we will keep our plans as is.

We dont have any kids, lol so it would just be DH there. He does want to golf one day while we are in Olrando.. if it so happens I fly from LA to Orlando perhaps he will just plan for his "golf day" to coincide with my "travel day". I am sitting here laughing.. DH is rather quiet and shy, he would probably be a wreck checking into the resort all alone. Poor fella!

On a side note.. if anybody is a golfer and would like to play one of the WDW courses during the timeframe of 9/13 - 9/21 please let me know! DH would love to hook on to a group although I am sure there are plenty of people that go to the course alone!

Thanks Disney Friends.. ya'll are always great :)

My DH always goes to the course alone - just takes the complimentary cab from the hotel straight to the golf course. The golf course will hook your DH up with some other golfers - he just needs to let the golf course know that he wants to be hooked up. He'll have a great time! My DH always enjoys meeting other golfers at WDW.

Thanks for the info about the golf, Antonia!

I was not aware of the complimentary cab service for the golfers, is that something you need to reserve ahead of time? We will be renting a car but I probably will take it while he golfs to go to the GF spa, maybe a bit of shopping at DTD also.

One last golf related question.. does your DH have a favorite course? David (my DH) has been looking at the WDW website and cant decide! He made a few tee times (I think) and once he chooses he will cancel the others.
