Hi Everyone! So my boyfriend and I are going to Disney World in December. We were originally supposed to stay at Pop Century. But I kept reading different reviews about it and got really nervous. We are celebrating our anniversary while on this trip so I wanted us to stay in a nice, romantic resort. So I changed it to Port Orleans Riverside. Did I do the wrong thing? Can anyone tell me anything about this resort? I've seen pictures and it looks beautiful! Help calm my nerves!! Thanks everyone so much! :) :)

I have stayed at Port Orelans 4 times andd loved it. Some people complain that the resort is too large. It is a large resort but I just love walking around this resort, very peacful and romantic. I have also stayed at POP and it was crazy. I was not disappointed with POP but it was different, alot of kids at POP. You will love POR its a very beautiful resort enjoy.....

Thank you so much for writing to me. It sounds great! After reading your post I definitely think I made the right decision. Thank you again. :)

The only thing that I didn't care for at POR was the shared transportation with POFQ. Pop doesn't share. You'll have to let us know how it works out when you return.

I think that with the exception of the size of the rooms and having double rather than queen sized beds, that POR is the equal to deluxe resorts. YOu will love it. It is beautiful, the food court is terrific, Boatwrights is a great restaurant. And the boat ride to DTD is heavenly. This is a very romantic resort. Happy Anniversary. You did well!

It isn't bad...we stayed at FQ and were always the first picked up. Sharing isn't bad at all....believe me...the busses are not nearly as crowded as the values.......you'll enjoy.

It is a beautiful and romantic resort, reminds me of the Grand Floridian on a slightly less grand scale but same feel to it, you could book a carriage ride at night which is VERY romantic as well and you can stroll over to the French Quarter and take in some Jazz music at night, The only main issue there is the busses and I never use them, always have a car. Also Boatwrights dining hall has GREAT food both breakfasts and dinners there are great and the food court is also very good. You will love it there.

i think you made a great choice. my ex & i stayed at POFQ last year and it was very romantic. :cloud9: so is POR - the grassy walkways, gardens, horse & carriage rides. I have not stayed at POP but I have stayed at other Value resorts and they were not romantic for me at all.

Well I can't tell you that you made the wrong decision....

you know why????????????

I did the SAME thing yesterday! haha. Upgraded from POP to POR for our trip next month!! :rotfl:

We stayed at POFQ last year and loved it...but I kinda like the theming a bit more at POR. We were going to stay at POP, but I just thought, heck why not treat ourselves back to a moderate? So I can say, you did a good thing. If I told you that you didn't, I would be knocking my own decision too!!

Check out pics here on the wdwinfo site and read good reviews about POR on the all ears web site too. There are some great POR threads here as well.

Congrats on the anniversary! :woohoo:

We had always stayed at Deluxe Resorts and my DH kept complaining that I spent too much on hotel rooms for us and our adult kids. So I decided to try POFQ one year and I was suprised at how nice it was. We loved walking around on the grounds including a daily walk over to Riverside. Although I personally prefer the deluxe hotels, my DH and DS26 and his girlfriend thought PO was much nicer for the $.

I have no doubt you are going to love this resort and it will be very romantic for you.

Oh, okay. We will be renting a car and we will use the transportation occasionally. So I will definitely let you know how it goes! :thumbsup2

Wow! I didn't know that POR is equal to a deluxe resort. It sounds great! I also didn't know that there was a boat ride to DTD. We must do that! It sounds very romantic! I will also check out the restaurant. Thank you very much for all the tips! :yay:

YAY! That is always a good thing. I was getting nervous about sharing busses. :) Thank you!

That sounds absolutely romantic! I definitely would love to book a carriage ride! That sounds very Cinderella like. Going to hear jazz music at the French Quarter sounds like it would be fun too! Thank you for the great tips!! It sounds great! I think I made a great decision! :woohoo:

YAY! It does sound very romantic. I can't wait! I am such a sappy romantic girl that this resort sounds perfect for me. Hopefully my boyfriend will feel the romance too. Haha. He is not as romantic as I am  :)

Wow!! That is very funny! I guess it's true! Great minds do think alike! When are you staying at POR? I definitely will check out those sites! Thank you for the tips!!! Have a great time on your trip also!!! :thumbsup2 :cool1: :woohoo:

We have stayed at POR and loved it. I requested a room in the Alligator Bayou section and it was fairly close to the pool and the restaurant area. I think you will be very happy at POR. Have a great time.

I am in the reverse situation. I have reservations for our first trip  with DH and DD (4) now at POR and thinking of switching to POP. I want POR because they have a hot tub and other amenaties I would like to enjoy.:cloud9: We are going 12/12-18 and I have a 5 day hopper so I can not worry about rushing on our arrival/departure days.
Any inputs?

This is my very first post too. Yay me:laughing:

That is great! I can imagine how nice Deluxe Resorts can be but the POR resorts sound like that are equivalent for less money. Saving money is always a good thing! :)

Aw thank you!!!!

Thank you so much! I will look into Alligator Bayou. Are there a lot of buildings on the property? Is Alligator Bayou the nicest one?

Wow! We are going to be in Disney at the same time!! :) Well, I haven't stayed at Pop Century or POR. I think Pop Century is more kid friendly. That is what I get from reading posts about it and visiting it on my last trip. If you want a more relaxed vacation then I would say choose POR. They both seem like nice resorts though. Just depends on what you are trying to get out of the trip. Congrats on your first post!!! YAY!! :welcome: pixiedust: :)

When I wrote you back earlier, I didn't realize that it says you are from Philadelphia. I'm from the suburbs of Philly. Where about do you live? :)

I have stayed at POP also and enjoyed it there too. I am happy anywhere when I am at Disney. When we stayed at POR we only went to parks 2 days on some old hoppers that we had. We wanted to stay back and enjoy the resort. When we were at POP we were at the parks from morning till night. I think it depends on what you plan on doing. If you are only using the resort for mainly sleeping and showering then go with POP and save the money. If you will have time to enjoy all that POR offers then stay there. Both are nice, good luck choosing and have a fun vacation with your DD.

We just had twins 3 months ago and I would like a relaxing vacation. DH and I will be 5 years at the end of Feb and DD will be 5 in Jan so I guess we will just have to come back to enjoy POR I still cant decide!!

OK I can afford it this year and we might not next trip because we will most likely be taking the twinkies. :scared:

So this trip, me :santa: , DH :bored: , DD princess: 12/12-18/07.

Thanks for the help.

Hi:
We were at POR in June of 2006 (AB section as we have 3 kids). We loved it and found it to be a really nice, relaxing atmosphere (fyi, we had NO trouble with the buses!). Anyway they have a really nice pool bar that served killer Pina Coladas.

Have a great time...we were nervous too based on some of the things we read, but we really loved it.

Kelly
