I changed my resort! Now I'm nervous..Help about POR!!

Hi:
We were at POR in June of 2006 (AB section as we have 3 kids). We loved it and found it to be a really nice, relaxing atmosphere (fyi, we had NO trouble with the buses!). Anyway they have a really nice pool bar that served killer Pina Coladas.

Have a great time...we were nervous too based on some of the things we read, but we really loved it.

That is great!! I can't wait! I am so excited to try it!! I will definitely make a note about the Pina Coladas!! :thumbsup2

Kelly

I've stayed at both, and enjoyed both, but POR is much more romantic. Enjoy!

Yay! I picked the right one! Thank you! :)

Our family has stayed at POR for the last two spring breaks ( March 2006 and March 2007). We rather liked the resort, it is very large, but very pretty. The pool is alot of fun for the kids, and you can use the pool at the siste resort POFQ. We are going back to Port Orleans again this March but will be getting 2 rooms at POFQ...family is getting bigger, but we really like the access this resort has to all the parks, and especially the boat ride to DTD.

I think you have made a great choice to switch to POR.

Enjoy your trip!!!!

So did you decide on POR or Pop?

POR all the way. This way we all get what we want. I am so excited. Hope thanks for letting me piggy back of of your thread. I hope this is semi-romantic for our 5 year anniversary with the kiddo.

When are you going? Maybe we could meet up at the piano bar thing I keep reading about?

That is great!! The 2 resorts sound like a lot of fun. I can't wait to explore both resorts!! Thank you! :) I am very happy with my decision so far!

YAY! I'm glad that you picked POR. I think that this resort sounds like the perfect resort for an anniversary. I think we both made the right decision!! Anytime!:woohoo:

I'm going 12/15-12/22. That would be great! I definitely want to check out the piano bar. I've read they have some pretty cool drinks there! When are you going?

I have stayed at both. We stayed at PO riverside and the other posters are right, it is very beautiful and layed back. However, we have children and strollers and the resort doesn't have elevators. Guess what floor we were on-- the second. The stairs was the only downfall. We requested a first floor, but didn't get it.
The POP is a great value for the buck- hence value resort. The kids love the arcade, pool and the food court. We have returned twice with our next trip to the POP in five days.

We go every year and every year we stay at POR, it's beautiful; 1x we stayed at alligator bayou, very nice but the next year we stayed at oak manor and have stayed there every year since; the beds are good size and the grounds are beautiful; make sure to take the boat to downtown dis, go to Boatwright's for breakfast and walk along the path to POFQ, stop at the food court there and get some benets (i may have spelled that wrong) but they are yummy! this is the 1st year we are trying somewhere different but have already made our res for POR 2008. Happy anniv!

Have you figured out which section you would like to stay in? The AB section has a more rustic room interior, while the Mansion section's rooms are more of a southern plantation. IMO, the room decor may be "nicer" in the Mansion section, but I found the walkways to be too plain. The paths in the AB section are more lush and beautiful. (Good for hand holding walks:love2: )I really don't think you can lose staying at either section. You should be able to find some pictures of both room types here:

There are elevators in POR and POFQ. One set per building at least. They aren't the easiest things in the world to locate though -- ask when you check in.

(Just FYI -- there were elevators at Coronado Springs and Caribbean Beach Resorts also. So AFAIK, all the moderates have elevators.)

(Also, the ice machines and pop machines are in the immediate vicinity of the elevators -- one trip to CBR, we arrived very late and needed something, even just a soda would do, to get some sugar into DH's bloodstream -- the CMs at guest services never told us there was a pop machine nearby! BUT now we know.)

Oh, okay. Wow going up the steps must have been rough. I am praying that we get put in a building with elevators. I pack way too much stuff. I will feel bad having to lug all of the suitcases up the steps. :sad2: Haha. I'm very excited though! Thank you for letting me know about the steps issues. :)

The rooms do look absolutely beautiful! I really like the way the mansions look. I will definitely take the boat ride to Downtown Disney. I didn't even know that POR had that. Do you need ADR's for Boatwrights or can you walk right in? Mmm..I definitely want to try beignets!! I will put that on my list of foods to try. It sounds great! :yay: Thank you so much!! :woohoo: :cool1:

Thank you for the website link. I've been trying to figure out what section to stay in. I really like the way the Mansions look. I'd love to stay there. Although the AB section looks nice too. Do you know which buildings have king size beds? I think I might not even request a section and see where they end up putting us. I like to be surprised. :) I am going to keep my fingers crossed for the Mansions though. :thumbsup2

Oh, okay. There are elevators in every building? I didn't know that. That is good then! :thumbsup2 Ok, good! I'm glad about the soda machines. I definitely am going to have to visit there to keep drinks in the room. Thank you for the tips!

I highly recommend you make your ADR's now. You can always cancel if need be, but it is good to have them. You don't want to be turned away from a Disney restaurant and be dissapointed that you could have eaten there had you acted now.

I did make all of my ADR's already. I was just curious if you needed one to go to Boatwrights because I never heard of it before. :)

Good question. You might be able to get a few answers from the POR thread regarding which buildings and rooms have king beds: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=396424
And if you have your heart set on the Mansions, put in a request when you make your ressies. I did, and got the building AND room that I requested. :yay:

Good...just wanted to make sure for your sake. If it means anything, we made ADRs for breakfast at Boatwrights. I am not sure how the food court is at POR, but we weren't in love with the one at POFQ. Figured we would want at least a decent sit down breakfast while at the resort!

Oh, okay. Thank you for the tip! I might have to make a reservation for Boatwrights. It sounds like it might be a nice place for breakfast. Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it! :) :yay:

We just got back from POR on Thurs night, we loved it. The ONLY thing I would do differently the next time is to make sure to request rooms closer to the main areas (like the lobby/pool/bus stops) I didn't make any requests at all. We don't have small kids, so it wasn't a HUGE deal but seriously...some of the buildings are a hike from everything and when you are tired from the parks, it seems like forever to get back to your room. I can imagine it would be a hassle with younger kids, especially when it rains. (we were in AB 17-rooms 1755 and 1756)

Other than that, we loved everything about it. The buses were fine, the mousekeeping was awesome, the grounds were nice, etc.

(FWIW, we didn't have any problem walking up and getting a table at Boatwrights for breakfast for all 5 of us, without ADRs- and this was during free dining)

Ok, I will make sure that I ask for a room close to the main area. I didn't realize the resort was that huge. I'm glad that the rest of the resort was great and you had a good time!!! Great!! I'm glad that if we decide to go to Boatwrights we can just walk right up. Thanks so much! :yay: :)
