Aaarrrgghh!

Carbs are going to be the death of me. Crackers, cereal, bread, fiber bars, protein bars, chocolate bars.... :confused3

My weight is starting to creep up, even though I can exercise more again.

For anyone else who's struggled with this, what did you do?

Hi Alice.:goodvibes

I am so there with you. I ate an entire bag of chips yesterday. with dip. uggh. And the whole time I was doing it I knew it was a bad choice.

For me, when it gets to this point I just have to go cold turkey for a while and not have anything (bad carb wise). Get it out of the house and basically just avoid, avoid, avoid until I feel a little more under control. Along with this I try to have lots of healthy snacks available. We have carrots and hummus and tons and tons of fruit on hand for today.

I know what my true trigger foods are. For me it's potato chips, cookies, and cake. I know I can't keep them in the house in any kind of quantity. Hence the binge on the chips yesterday. If I would have just bought one of those small snack size bags that would have been enough of a treat, but noooo. Had to buy the big bag.

I am sure a lot of people think where is the self-control? Junky carbs are my downfall. It is just this ugly circle of eating carbs, wanting more carbs, eating more, wanting more, etc. So I have just learned to work around it.

The other thing that really helps is to write it down and track the calories. Even if it is a disastrous day, at least it is also a reality check. If I track BEFORE I eat it, I am less likely to go as crazy. Needless to say there was no tracking going on yesterday.

Hang in there. It just takes a few tough days to feel back on plan. You can do it.:goodvibes

Thanks Rose - great advice. :goodvibes

Trying to get my head on straight today!

I was sitting here getting my game plan on for today - avoid, avoid, avoid is probably going to work best for a bit! - but also thinking that I am a social eater. I have no problem turning down social drinking but find it comforting and joyful, maybe?, to be eating with family and friends.

I need to shift my focus and my thinking about gatherings.

I used to be a huge social eater, but since the gluten issue, I eat so little away from home anymore unless I bring it myself. My problem has become eating at home. I used to go out for treats--like we would go out for dessert or go out to eat and I would have french fries, etc. Can't do that very easily anymore.

I think if you are on plan at home--and I mean really, really on plan, then it is a lot easier to splurge a little bit for special occasions/family gatherings. It really is all about moderation. But I know for me when it comes to carbs, sometimes moderation is really hard!

:sad2:I have to do a lot of self talk. ALOT. Like telling myself is that calorie really worth it ect.. I also have to have alternatives that are okay. I mean how can avoid the bad, if I have nothing to replace it with. One thing I have going for me, is I love fruit. I could eat a whole thing of blueberries and call that dinner. Somepeople won't think that is the greatest idea. But I would rather do that then pig on chips. My weakness is sweet tea and Mexican food!

When I am really in the groove too. It takes me a couple of weeks. But if you really train yourself to eat when your hungry. Which is what are bodies are made for. You would be suprised how little you eat. never starve yourself that is not good. But you can train yourself to know what hunger is. Most of us never get to that point. Some say you shouldn't. I tend to disagree.

One last thing that works for me. If i know I am say going out for mexican. I will be really good that day. LIke cottage cheese for breakfast good. lol I also might try to exercise twice that day instead. i am going to want those things sometimes and I let myself.

I certainly don't want to sound like a know it all. I can tell people all day long how to lose weight. I have done it 3 times. Now ask me if I kept it off. :sad2:

the thing I am trying to different this time is not push the exercise so much. Sure I will lose, and lose fast. But that burns me out every time. Then I even go back to all my old way of eating on top of it.

- keep a lot of fresh fruit food in the kitchen
- eat plenty of protien (grilled chicken, tuna fish) it keeps you full and helps build/ maintain muscle which is excellent of keeping off/ burning fat.
- walk at least a mile a day (when schedule permits). keeps you healthy and will put you in a better, more optimistic mood, you'll likely find it easier sticking to a healthy diet.
yeah it's heard giving up yummy foods, but it DOES get wayyyy easier the longer you stick to it.
you can do it!! :cheer2:

Do excise on regular basis and drink lots of water whenever you will feel like hungry. And do not buy products so that there will be no question of eating them, this way you can control your eating habit.

I was in your position not too long ago. Worst part is... I started working at a bakery. Not just a bakery, I am talking about the best one in town. So good in fact that people from outer regions drive over an hour to come get some of our goods. Everything is made fresh daily anything left over goes to a food bank. They also put me in charge of the whipped cream station. :( I knew at that moment I was gonna be in trouble.

However when I realized that I was bulging out of my fat pants, I had to do something. So I had to go to the super market and find treats that were really good to eat and low in fats and sugar.

When I wanted that brownie at the bakery, I grabbed a Fiber One brownie. It has 90 Calories 2g of fat, low in sugar and sodium. I also found at Target no sugar/no fat cheesecake pudding. Mix that with a bit of chocolate no sugar/no fat pudding and add some bananas you have a very low calorie treat that tastes like a banana split. Or if you want some Cracker Jack popcorn, go and get a bag of caramel drizzled Thinsations popcorn. Again low fat sugar etc. There are lots of options out there if you look for them.

Or like others said drink tons of water it fills you up. Bananas I find also cut the sugar craving pretty quick.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!
