It's gotten out of control and people are blocking off major interstates and exits to towns. I just want to get in my car and drive where I need to go without getting stuck in terrible traffic and pretending I am in a rat maze. :( I finally gave up today and came back home. A neighbor with a GPS took my son with her to see if she could get him to dance class downtown (her daughter goes to same school). I just want to scream :furious: There is no end to this madness in sight anytime soon. I saw on the news where these crazy people are setting fire to city buses that are blocking the roads. They are strowing strash all over the streets too. I really need to take a picture of some of this trash. You would have to see it to believe it.

Just another luxury I had in America that I took for granted- regular trash pickup and people who strike and protest without the ability to take total control of a major city and its roadways. Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm sorry. Usually I have some idea of what is going on in other parts of Europe, but I hadn't heard anything about Italy lately...what's going on now?

Basically, the trash people are on strike, there is too much trash and they don't know what to do with it......they want to open an old incinerator in a local town that has been closed for years, but locals are against it for pollution reasons (Naples already has hazardous air quality) and the mafia has a strong hold on the entire situation as it does everything else around here. Trash is piled up like last year only this time they took example from the gas delivery strikers last month and decided to block major roadways and exits to towns. They are also throwing this trash EVERYWHERE. Looking at this on the news is enough to make you cry. People are starting to lose patience and I am afraid this will turn ugly with violence.

I can imagine that it must stink also. How long has this been going on? Any end in sight? I heard also that there were issues with trucking? Things not being delivered and low supplies of gas.

What in the world is going on over there?:scared1:

I feel for you. When we got stationed in Panama, we had off post housing for about 5 months. When I first got down there, their trash collectors where on strike. OMG, the stench was horrid. There was a mountian of trash outside the one apartment complex that had to have been 30 ft long and just as high. That was the worst area to drive by. We didn't have problems with riots, like you are. The locals just went on like it was normal for them.

Sleepy, I've wondered how things are going during this strike. When I lived in Naples, sciopero was a word that I used to dread. Are they still lighting the piles of trash on fire during the night? Word to the wise: I had some serious lung problems after moving away from there. I probably wasn't careful enough about just not going out when the smoldering piles were out. Good news, problems finally resolved themselves.

I don't have any wisdom, except here's my heartfelt sympathy-I get what a pain in the patootie this is. If you haven't lived through it, you just really don't know what it's like. Take care, hang in there! lilyv

Oh no! I am so sorry.:(
It's amazing the things we take for granted when we live in the US.

What is it about Naples and traffic??

I work in Naples FLORIDA and it's the same way!! It took me almost two hours to get home from work yesterday.

Anyway, from one Naples driver to another, I'm truly sorry. :rotfl:

I saw this in the Orlando Sentinel the other day. The pictures showed piles of trash in the street and people trying to navigate past them, what a nightmare!
