Just buying SSR yesterday I know that my paperwork is on its way and the closing should be sometime at the first of September.

I know that I will get a temporary DVC membership card but my DVC user name and password for online access won't be set up until right before closing.

I am getting 150 points from UY March 2005. Then in March 2006 I will get 150 more points.

Here's where I'm confused.

When I get my temporary card I can call MS and make reservations. BUT, do the reservations have to be for a stay after my closing in September or can the reservation be for before September?

I want to go with DH on 9/23 for my bd and if the closing hasn't happened completely by then will we loose our reservation?

Make sense? or clear as mud

I don't think you can use your points until you have officially closed, but I would suggest reading the paperwork when you receive it and see what it says.

Ask your guide to confirm this, but once your deposit (not the entire down payment) is processed you should be able to make a reservation. (We did it on a credit card - $500) We just did a Disney resale add-on, and used our points for a reservation next June ('06) right away. Just call your guide and ask if I am correct. DVD has nothing to lose, because if you back out of the deal, they just put your reservation points back in their account. Anybody agree or disagree, please add your 2 cents. I'm certainly not an expert, having only bought two years ago.

I just bought last week with a Sept. use year through DVC. I was able to make ressies for this August using 2004 points! I made ressies the day I made a deposit (using a credit card which I will pay off when I get the bill.) I also have another reservation booked for April. I just sent in the paperwork two days ago and will not be closing until mid September. All of the ressies are at DVC resorts. So YES, YOU MOST CERTAINLY MAKE RESSIES AND EVEN STAY AT A DVC RESORT BEFORE CLOSING (if you buy through DVC) - at least I did. If you decide to stay somewhere before your closing and you decide not the go through with DVC, you will be responsible to pay for the visit though.

When we joined, we could make a reservation right away but it had to be for dates after we closed.

The DVC guy I was buying from was the one who called to put the room on hold for me (August trip before closing). I called later to confirm and was actually able to switch from VWL to BWV. You should be able to do it - if not call the person you bought from. Good luck!

meaning the construction must be complete on the building you are supposedly buying into before you travel. However the unofficial policy is anything goes. Our guide got on the phone and booked our first stay before we closed and well before our building was constructed. We did the trip and later ms figured it all out. They used developers points to loan us and we paid back the developers points with our first allocation of points after we closed.

You said you are getting 150 points from use year March 2005, check to see if this means your building is open. If it is not then you need to wait until it is open to stay at DVC on your points. You can make reservations before its open but the actual stay has to happen after.

If the paperwork shows closing in early Sept you will be fine for a late Sept stay.

(I have March as a use year and the year I bought Feb 2004, I could not use points until June when my building opened, as did the other buyers of SSR before it was ready for guest.)

Once your deposit is paid you should be in the system and can make reservations so give MS a call and see what they say.
