I read a very disturbing book today...Velocity by Dean Koontz. I didn't realize Koontz would be so violent. I thought it would be like a John Grisham novel.

And I couldn't put it down either. I had to finish it, kind of like the main character in the book itself. No dishes got done until tonight, the kids just ran around mostly entertaining themselves and the house is a mess. I guess I could use this sleeplessness to clean up but everyone else is asleep. And DH worked until about 11 and is now sound asleep so I can't bounce these thoughts off of him.

I think I'll go look up some pics to post on the Orlando Bloom thread....that should make me feel some better....

Oh no. Im sorry about that. If it helps Im up with ya. But its only because im working. Well thats all im doing in the next 2 days.. between both jobs it will be 32 hours in 2 days plus the 32 i worked the rest of this week since monday.

I'm up too. I'm stressing about my job situation. Hopefully we can all get some sleep at some point this weekend.

Gosh I hope so. Im hoping to get an hour between jobs in a few hours. But its not looking promising. :surfweb: gonna need lots of coffee

It's ok I never go to sleep :rotfl:

I was like that last week with Dan's Brown's book "Angels and Demons". IMHO, it was better than "DaVinci".

But I couldn't put it done. Read it until about 230AM one night, finally fell asleep with the book on my chest, and read it all morning the next day till I finished it.

So, I finally went to bed around 3am and then Samantha (my 2 yr old) woke up and did not want to stay in her bed but wanted to be "with you Mommy, with you" so I couldn't say no to that and put her in bed with us. Even when I wanted to go to sleep I had a 2 yr old kicking me...

Dh is back at work this morning and then has soccer drafts all afternoon and evening. I am so ready for school to start...that's a sad thing to say but I'm terrible at keeping a schedule all summer (June is great then we taper off...) and am yearning for a good schedule. We just returned from a 2 week vacation and I guess I got used to having DH around and now I need a vacation from the vacation.

Rambling over...lack of sleep talking. I hope you other folks got some shut eye too! Maybe you're getting to sleep in??

I've been on a Dean Koontz kick for the past month or so! Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to pick that one up. :rotfl2:

So far I've read of his (just this summer):

The Husband (highly, highly recommend it!!! very suspenseful)
Winter Moon
Intensity
Strangers
Phantoms
Midnight

I've been devouring paperback books this summer. I know once I start teaching I won't have the same amount of time to read, so I've been insane with it. I've also been into Greg Iles too.

Mushy...Velocity has a great plot line. That's what drew me in. I could have done without the descriptiveness of the violence though. Suspense is good enough for me. Spoiler...so only highlight if you want to read........I could have done without the fish hooks and nail gun....I'll just leave it at that.

Are his other books so violent?

Amy, some are and some aren't. A lot of them are pretty formulaic. Good vs. evil. Always some travel element -- good chases evil or evil chases good. Secondary character usually gets killed off, which outrages the good character and prompts action. Always a smart, charming dog in the book. Usually a child prodigy of some sort who needs to be protected. Good always prevails (yay good!).

But still, I love him!
