I can't believe what a student just said!!!!!

We saw one of the first Apple computers at the Newseum in DC and DD asked how we got on the internet with that thing. I said there was no internet then. She said "You lived in a time when there was NO INTERNET???"

I remember years ago my DH was friends with a guy who was about 21 at the time (so my DH was probably 8 years older than him) well the friend did not know what an 8 track tape or player was. We had to try and explain it to him without having anything to show him. It was quite funny.

:rotfl: That is so great! I love that.

A few years ago, I had my then 6-year old goddaughter in the car with me. I don't know how we got on the subject, but she was asking questions about where foods came from. She asked about bacon, ham and hamburgers, and I let her know those foods came from pigs and cows. She then gets this absolutely horrified look on her face and says, "You mean chicken comes from chickens?!" :scared1:

I thought from that very moment she would be a vegetarian, it seemed to scar her so much. :goodvibes

:lmao: This reminds me of the time my little ones realized where their meat comes from, chicken from chickens, bacon and ham from pigs...my youngest said...where does baby food come from :lmao::rotfl:

Several years ago DD asked me if I rode in a horse and buggy when I was little since cars weren't invented yet. :confused3 I was born in 1968. :sad2:

We were listening to Margaritaville and DD asked what a 'pop top' was.

:rotfl: That is so cute! I bet your youngest's little mind was making what he thought was a logical connection. :goodvibes

Ah, yes, 8 track tapes. I just showed DS7 one of those last night on YouTube. He was watching a few videos from Alvin and The Chipmunks and I clicked on the commercial for the "Chipmunk Punk" album. There was an LP, a cassette and an 8 track. He wasn't too impressed.

When DS was about 3 he kept asking if we can go to ".com". Now-a-days, everthing has a web site, so he assumed when he saw a commercial, there was a web site. I would tell him that not everything on t.v. has a web site and that there was a time where there was no internet and web sites.

This reminds me of my ds a year or so ago. He was around 10/11 at the time and I had just bought my DD (an infant) one of those little phones you drag behind you, it's basically a rotary phone you put your fingers in the holes and drag the circle to dial the number. So my DS looks at me very concerned and says "and just how do you use one of THOSE?" LOL I almosted died laughing, I explained how you use it and he got quiet then said "if you needed 911 you'd be dead by time you dialed it" then I had to explain to him that we didn't have 911 when I was a young child, we had to dial a 7 digit number for the fire dept. or just press 0 and ask the operator for a police or ambulance. Very interesting conversation, times sure do change!

One time we were going through my old things at my parents house and my son was about 11. I found some old 45's and my son said, "Woah. Those are huge! How many songs can you get on them?"

:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2: That is hysterical! Logic....!

When my kids had a field day a few years back in elementary school, the station I was working at involved the kids pulling on a baggy pair of shorts, running to the other side of the field where there was a clothesline. They had to pull off the shorts, and hang them with clothespins on the clothesline before running back to their team.

I cannot tell you how many kids had no idea of how a clothespin (the kind you pinch) worked! They'd put the shorts on the line, and then just try to stick the clothespin on them (with the wider part) and then be frustrated when the shorts fell off. Finally, as each group came, I started giving a "clothespin demonstration" before the relay began! :confused3 ;)

All of that dang new technology :lmao:. You can blame this on the HOA's around the country that won't allow people to have a clothesline :thumbsup2:lmao:.

Yes, luckily for my kids they've gone camping since they were little, so they already had exposure to some of these sophisticated items on their own!

I have at least one student every year that will raise their hand after I write something on the board in cursive and say, "Can you write that in English too?"

I think I officially realized we are "city folk" while at the grocery store with my otherwise very bright 14 year old. After looking at the cucumbers and inquiring about what they tasted like, she was absolutely shocked to learn a pickle came from a cucumber. Shocked.
