Arsenal found in man's home
(Orange-WTNH, Feb. 26, 2003 10:10 PM) _ Federal agents have found an arsenal of weapons and explosives inside a home in Orange.
Connecticut State Police were lead to the home by the owner 60-year old Thurland Bristol Jr.
Bristol was arrested earlier today for driving drunk and having a live pipe bomb in his truck.
Agents found 5 shotguns, numerous handguns, a live pipe bomb as well as bomb making materials.
Neighbors describe Bristol as a troubled man.
Neighbor Michael Paolino,"We're right next door and he's making pipe bombs in his basement. It's strange stuff and dangerous too."
"There is no evidence inside the home that leads to any terrorist activity or any specific target. The were made in his spare time for his own entertainment," says Trooper Roger Beaupre.
State police secured the live pipe bomb and say Bristol is a convicted felon who claims he made the bombs for his own personal safety.
Bristol's 94-year old mother also lives in the home.
She is safe tonight and was apparently unaware of her son's hobby.
Bristol will be arraigned tomorrow in Bridgeport Superior Court.
