I can't believe MS suggested this!

I have read very little on the new booking policy but understand it to be "book all your days at once and not have to call day-by-day". This sounds like a nice change since I spent 5 days on my Christmas vacation (not at Disney) call MS to book our Thanksgiving trip. It was annoying and seemed ridiculous but I knew that was the way it was....

I have also read a little about how this new ressie policy can be abused....

Well, yesterday I called to book a short stay at AKV (not my home resort) for March. I didn't realize but I called two days too early to book. I was about to hang up when the reservationist suggested I just book the whole week then call back and cancel what I don't need :scared1: :scared1:

I thought this was so wrong. Of course I hung up and will call tomorrow to book my vacation.

oh a couple of websites - that is a hint.

so if you only want sun-thur - call on the friday and book the week - then call back on monday and cancel fri and sat.

hope if a bunch of people start doing this - either DVC says to cancel the entire week or something.

of course it could also be for people who like me only brought enough for our stays - to be forced to buy more points.

really think it is the last one and I don't like it.

So did I miss something? You can only book whole weeks the first day of the 11 month window, not just Sun-Thur? I have to book Sun-Thur starting next week and was sure hoping for the whole 5 days on my first call. I will certainly have trouble if I have to call everyday. Some units are so hard to get!!!

You can book partial weeks. You can book up to 7 nights at one time. So if you only want 5 nights, you can actually call 2 days earlier and book the whole 7 (ending with the nights you really want) and then later drop those 2.

Of course this only benefits you if you have enough points and don't have to borrow to reserve the two weekend nights you are going to cancel.

I thought this was the sort of abuse MS was specifically on the look out for. I can't believe they would encourage it.

:rotfl2: You've never used DDP, have you?

Much of the abuse of rules and procedures Disney suffers actually stems from CM's trying to be helpful...often with a wink and a smile from management. A LOT of their troubles are self-inflicted.

I see what you mean. Wouldn't work for us anyway as we typically save up points to go every two years and book 8-10 days. We'd actually have to wait a day into our vacation ( or 3 ) to be able to book the length of our stay :)

2010 as it stands now :( ... sooooo looooong

And many members of DisBoard who reported that MS would be cracking down on abuse, seemed to assume that "abuse" meant the same thing to them as it did to MS. When I spoke with the CS Team at MS about the change in booking policy, I found the comments to be less specific and more just an attempt at placating irritated members. You know the kind: "Thanks for your input. We will keep your views in mind. Rest assured that if we see a problem, we will fix it." -- Suzanne

BlakeNJ:

That was very considerate of you not to book days that you really didn't need at the suggestion of the CM and to call back when you could actually book your days.

What the CM suggested is yet again another example under the new reservation policy of members possibly booking days that they do not need. Once again those with more points benefit with this new policy. At least with day by day, members were booking what they really wanted and needed.

Keep in mind the distinction between MS, (the folks who answer the phones) and DVC management (the folks who create the policies). There is no policy against doing what the MS rep suggested at this point in time, so there's no harm in a helpful MS rep mentioning it.
