Set the scene: Our backyard fence belongs to the elementary school, so I can watch the kids on the playground/field/swings from my yard. The playyard is huge, it goes back over 10 houses.
The time: Lunch recess.
Today as I was making lunch I saw a group of kids in the middle of the field with an adult. Then I saw one child walking towards the building. I realized that it was MY son walking to the building. I could tell from his walk that he was in trouble. I watched him go the wall and stand.
I ran upstairs and got out the binoculars to look closer. (I need higher strength binocs.) I could see that he wasn't crying but just by watching his body language, he definitely had gotten busted for something.
My ds is in the first grade and is mild ADHD.
I picked up the phone and called the school. I left a message for his teacher telling the secretary who I am, where I live and what I saw. I just want to know what happened.
My ds always puts a spin on the stories he tells so I figured when he gets home and I ask what happened today I'd have a little background.
Just now it was afternoon recess. My son was on the swings right by our fence. I was in the yard with my younger son. We went to the fence to talk to the 1st grader. I said how is your day? Fine. Why were you by the building at lunch recess? I had a problem. I let it go at that, figured we could talk about later. As I'm talking to him, I see his teacher talking to the lunch monitor lady, pointing towards my house.
Now I'm thinking his teacher, the monitor, the secretary probably all think I'm a whack job, watching my kid on the playground. :O
I just HAPPENED to see it happen. I don't watch for him everyday, ok, if I see kids out I do look for him. Hey since the day we moved in everyone who has been at my house says "You can watch your kids at school, how neat."
So DIS friends...am I a whack-job for watching him? for calling the school? (I can't wait to hear the story he tells and the story the teacher tells...I'm hoping they are the same but we'll see)
I know I'm a whack job for getting out the binoculars, but I'll be more nutty if I go buy higher strength ones!
Oh my.....I think I need a life, too little sleep, too much newborn baby........

UPDATE!!
My ds's teacher sent me a note. He was throwing rocks! And then told the monitor he didn't know there was a rule about throwing things. (Like the spin?). When I asked him about it, he told me about the throwing rocks but not the part about NOT knowing the rule. I told him I saw him on the playground and standing by the building. He knows I look out there, we've talked a few times over the fence. I'll put away the binoculars next time!
