I Can't Believe I Invited My MIL -I'm BAAACK! And determiend to finish this thing!

On behalf of mothers-in-law everywhere, I have to say, some of you guys seem a little..um..harsh. :scared: Kind of hurt my grandma feelings.

Some people are hard to get along with at any age - that isn't a function of mother-in-lawness, just bad personalities. But this mother-in-law sounds like a pretty nice introvert to me. She seems like someone who was doing her best to tag along, and she was probably tired at the end of the day from the effort. A fifty-five year old isn't an old lady, but she doesn't have as much energy as younger women do anymore - and she probably needed some alone-time at night, to rest up for the next day of being with her different-from-her-family-and-natural-to-her-ways daughter-in-law, and 2 energetic young children.

Guess what, ladies!! Your sons and daughters are going to get married one day. That's going to instantly turn you into the :rolleyes1 mother-in-law. Wait for it - it's coming, faster than you can imagine. Those who think they will never be the butt of mother-in-law jokes are probably the very ones most in danger. If it can happen to someone as seemingly reasonably nice as the mother-in-law in this trip report, it can happen to you!:dance3:

I had some of the same sentiments :thumbsup2 However, I was able to laugh along with everyone, cuz I can laugh at myself and what my youngins probably think of me - and I'm not 50 yet  Even though there were some jokes made - I am sure none of it was serious. I did gently defend grandmas everywhere in my earlier post - my recent reference was sort of a revenge of "how would I feel if someone took that pic of me ....." We need to start a DISNEY GRAMS thread, maybe! :lovestruc

Yikes - guess I hit a nerve!

Please, in the future, approach a subject out of care and concern and not malice and hurt.
...........

that's what I thought I was doing...on behalf of the mother-in-law!

BTW - I'm not doubting that all of the women on this thread are perfectly nice people...they're Disney lovers, after all! I guess I just don't get mother-in-law jokes.

Yes, you did hit a nerve. You basically came to a thread and attacked the entire thread for perceived injustices to a woman you have never met. Now, you have a right to your opinions, just as I have a right to mine, but I agree with Jordan that your post came off as being sanctimonious and judgemental. You may not have meant it that way, but it did. This was exacerbated by the fact that it was your first post on this thread, where before hand, people were getting along fine, if not worried about Heather's whereabouts.

I re-read the entire thread, and didn't find anything that I woudl object to being said about me. And I PLAN on being a mother-in-law who gets TRs like this written about her. After all, Heather's MIL offered to PAY for the trip, was a great sport about the tee shirts, and came to help with kids. I felt that Heather's gratitude and appreciation if her MIL really came through int he posts. She obviously gets along well enough with the woman to feel comfortable posting about the trip. If I recall, Heather's only big problems with MIL were that she can't be hurried in the mornings (which can be frustrating, especially when trying to make the rope-drop), and that she tends to overly spoil the kids. I don't recall her complaining about MIL needing a rest or to be alone. It was more of a "not having realized it before" and maybe a little bit of guilt, since she mentions a number of times what a trooper MIL was. Yes, maybe out of context it could read as a little bit of complaining, but int he context of everything else sai int he few days of TR we got, I don't think it was anything more than a comment on different travel styles, and how certain things in people's personalities don't work togehter on a trip.

Now, I don't klnow how many vacations you've been on, but when people take trips together, even to Disney, conflicts happen. People have different travel styles. TR's are usually places where people try to humorously, yet ACCURATELY report what happened on their vacations. This includes the ad AND the good. I read ALL the time about people complaining about spouses on trips, or relaying things that happened that irked them about their kids. Are you posting on their boards telling THEM they are being inappropriate? Or are only Mother-in-Laws exempt from joking about?

And the little comment about us thinking we are somehow "immune" from mother-in-law jokes was silly and uncalled for. Just becoming a Mother-in-law, even the best MIL in the world, the mythical "perfect MIL" everyone dreams about getting, you'll still get jokes made about you. It's in the job description, doncha know. :maleficen

OK, back to my heather-watch!

Since I'm one of the posters that you are attacking along with a long list of my DIS friends I feel the need to respond to you. I've been apart of this thread since page 2, and in fact had the winning slogan for the MIL t-shirt. We are now on page 34 and there has been a lot of fun tongue-n-cheek humor in between. Did you read all of it ??? I can't believe that you did and could still come away thinking we are "harsh". We’re the same people who have been writing about having trash can booze parties. Do you really think that was serious too? Most of us are in our 30’s or older with kids, and with MILs and FILs. I would actually rather go to Disney with my in-laws than my own parents. And we pick on each other…poor Jordan has been the punch line of so many jokes on this thread…but he was the first to defend us when you shook your virtual finger at us. What you did by chiming in at the 500 post mark to DISers you don’t know was like jumping into conservation with strangers you overheard at the mall. You wouldn’t do it in real life, please don’t do it here.

I think I’ll go make my MIL a t-shirt now.

What they said!:rotfl:

While I love my mother in law she does do things that bugs me. Just like my own mom does! And I'm sure I drive them crazy at times too. It's part of being in a family!

I think Heather is a real trooper for inviting anyone to vacation with her! I don't take any family members because I know we have different personalities and I would drive them nuts!

I'm sorry that you couldn't see the tongue in cheek way we were discussing things.

I have been "corresponding" here on the DIS w/ most of the women in this thread and they have been nothing, but nice, understanding and compassionate. It seems that you don't like these women "judging" their MILs and yet, you are quick to judge their character.

Please, in the future, approach a subject out of care and concern and not malice and hurt.

thanks Jordan!!:goodvibes

Walked into a hornet's nest on this one! I still don't see the humor in this trip report, but obviously this is a close-knit group who does. It would hurt my feelings to have a trip report begin the way this one did, but if the mother-in-law in this story has read it and finds it hilarious, who am I to argue?

Please, go back to having fun....

WOW!!! Just stumbled onto this fantastic thread and can't wait to hear more about Heather's trip! Sign me up! I'm ignoring the recent turn to the dark side on the MIL issue -- I cackled my way through every comment, as I've taken the MIL to Disney myself and can totally relate!

Heather, re-join us, will you? :)

As the only male in a gaggle of estrogen, I felt I had to represent......

It looks like you would've done fine on your own....;)

woo hoo! I am finally caught up!:cool1:

Thanks for the amusing TR so far Heather! I have been laughing like crazy for the last 30+ pages...:lmao:

I do hope everything is alright and we see an update soon!

She's probably just prepping for pom stuff...:cheer2:

Hi Heather :wave2: I was a big follower of your trippie and then slacked off on keeping up with the Dis. I just saw this thread was active and wanted to check in. I hope all is ok :goodvibes

Hey. I just read your entire trip report so far and I love it! Great pics too! I hope your coming back to finish because I can't wait for more!
