I cancelled Netflix today....

and ordered a new Blu-ray player that's compatible with the Amazon streaming. Oldest DS will get the blu-ray player that we already have to use in his room. Since I already have a Prime Membership I'm figuring that in the long term I'll save money. I hope it works out.

Cancelled Netflix two weeks ago. We are now waiting for something comparable. Our kids were the only ones who used the streaming. We did the blu ray by mail. I wish they would have just offered the blu rays by mail because the online streaming did not offer any new titles.

They do offer blu-ray and DVD's by mail without having to pay for streaming. I just changed my account a few weeks ago to cancel the streaming part and only receive the DVD's.

Netflix streaming is $9.99/mo. Amazon is $6.50. Not much of a savings.

Well, I had the Prime membership for the shipping - which paid for itself in shipping savings last Christmas time and probably will again this Christmas so I'm looking at the movie streaming as just icing on the cake. I'm also happier with the picture quality of the Amazon streaming (many, many more HD options in the streaming) on the computer so I'm hoping it will be just as good on the TV.

Budget wise I'm hoping the biggest difference is going to be in the movies that we were getting on DVD. We've been getting a lot of older catalog titles on DVD and not current stuff. I'm going to just account the cost of movies to be the cost of the rental stuff - both RedBox and streamed.

ETA - so my savings is both in the $9.99/month for the streaming and the 2@ a time unlimited DVDs at @$12/month - of which lately that was working out to be only 2 or 3 movies.

I cancelled ours at the start of the month - we are looking into either getting a Roku box or going with Amazon Prime. We just weren't watching enough stuff to justify the cost, especially after the price hike, and the way they handled the whole announcement/splitting services annoyed us enough to look for alternatives.

We're planning on making this leap come January. Right now we're on a free Amazon prime through the student account and the free primes don't get streaming. We also get the Amazon prime for $40 for the next 3 years as long as dh can prove he's still a student from an email Amazon sent us.

We use Amazon for everything shopping wise. Dh says he's not sure who's using who in that relationship, but judging by how much we spend there one of us is getting used. But honestly, usually the prices are better than in stores and it's just so much easier for me at this stage since it's a 15 minute drive at least to the closest store. Not to mention the stuff we're able to grab on sale. So to us, the prime is a given. The streaming will just be an added plus and I'm not sure we can justify having it and netflix when so much of it is the same content. Plus with that extra $8/month we can more than cover any redbox rentals.

We use a Roku box for streaming. I will say the plus side to them is they have some other free content as well. Dh likes getting up the next morning and watching last nights news shows And that's totally free, at least currently

They do offer only blueray by mail.

They added something like 3500 titles to streaming just last week.

I would not be relying on Amazon just yet to replace Netflix. The selection for Prime (free) viewing is very limited, although they add new titles frequently. It's still cheaper to use Netflix streaming only than paying for watching movies and tv through Amazon.

I think I'm going to soon. I'm not really using it so it doesn't seem worth it. Originally got it to watch movies outside of the house while on vacation etc. But we have a slingbox so we don't use it much anymore.

I have already cancelled the Netflix, I have yet to sign up for the Amazon Prime thing yet...I am kind of waiting to decide whether or not I am going to get one of those new Kindle Fire things. Seems like at the moment I have been so busy and I have been finding stuff to watch on the TV.

Not the stuff I've watched on my PC. I've watched a couple of Nat. Geo. Specials on Yellowstone.

We also have cable so as a family we were using Netflix primarily to watch movies and the movie selection on the streaming just wasn't there (hardly anything new) plus the wait for DVDs of new movies of over a month kinda stunk. The kids want to watch the movies when the come out not a month later.
