I Can See Epcot From Here! ~ A November Trip and Dining Report ~

really enjoying your TR!! What a great room you got...sooo worth it!! Can't wait for more!

Welcome! :cool1: So glad you are enjoying the TR!
You know I saw in one of your pics from last years trip what I now know must have been the Planet hollywood Store, but at the time I thought to myself what did they do move Planet Hollywood ???:confused3:rotfl:

Disney has to stop changeing things and confusing me  I am thinking it must have been '96 or '97 when they first put in what must now be the west side, I know we went to the Virgin Music Store and the place with all the interactive video games if that is even still there and '97 was our fiasco at pleasure island, 2006 was only a weekend trip so no DTD and last year just went for our last evening so never made it to west side, just as far as McDonalds.
This is why I love reading TR's, you always find out things you missed or what is new.

 It's possible that in 96 or 97 there was only the small Planet Hollywood gift shop right in the restaurant! Who knows! We didn't start going until 2005, so sometimes I don't know what people are talking about then they talk about where stuff used to be and what has changed and so on!

Sorry about the slow going here! The weekend kind of got away from me and then I got called in to substitute this morning.

We are getting the tail end of that nasty blizzard everyone else got. It is snowing like crazy and it's not supposed to stop until sometime Wednesday. I'm kind of expecting a delay or cancellation for school tomorrow. But it has to be BAD for our school to cancel. Most of the surrounding schools cancelled today, but we went!

I'll try to get my Kona Cafe breakfast update up either tonight or tomorrow.

Hope everyone is staying warm!

No worries Shelly! I'm sorry we sent you that bad weather!! Our storm pretty much shut things down over the weekend, but we are back at it today. The inner city schools were closed b/c the streets weren't plowed enough to let buses pass through, but ours are fine so we still have school (and of course, work!).

I would love a little Kona breakfast, thank you!

We are always wishing for snow down here, but I know too much can be a bad thing! Did you see the video of the roof of the Metrodome in Minnesota falling in from the weight of the snow? Wow! I hope y'all catch a break from the weather soon and warm up! I can't imagine getting out to work or school in the snow. :scared1: Practically everything here closes when we get a few flakes. :sad2:

I hope your Kona breakfast was as good as last year!

Yea Shelly, I am keeping warm and toasty in this 80 degree weather we are having out here in LA! ;)

Gee, thanks for the winter storm! :rotfl: I don't think we are supposed to get it as bad as you did, although I am starting to wonder.

Kona breakfast coming right up!

You should really come visit me sometime. That would cure your longing for snow in a hurry!

I saw pictures of that roof caving in, but I didn't see the video yet. :scared1:

Kona was awesome again!

You just had to rub it in, didn't you Sea??? :rotfl:80 :faint: Must be nice!

Day 3 – Monday November 8

Today was a slow morning getting up. We didn't have to be anywhere until our 10:15am ADR at Kona Cafe. We had breakfast at Kona last November and it was fabulous and we were really looking forward to it again! After getting up and getting all ready I went out on the balcony to check the temperature and take some more pictures of our awesome view.

It was another chilly day out, but not quite as bad as the previous two days. We wore our jackets out to the bus stop. An MK bus came shortly after we got there. We got on the bus at 9:13am. The MK bus only shared with the Swan and Dolphin, so only 3 stops. After stopping at the Swan and then the Dolphin it was now 9:23, and we arrived at MK at 9:35. We got off the bus and onto the monorail and were to the Poly with plenty of time to spare.

We checked in at Kona and were seated right away. Our waitress was awesome and very quick. We all knew what we were going to order – the same thing we got last year! DH ordered the Big Kahuna - “french toast, macadamia-pineapple pancakes, eggs, potatoes, ham, bacon, and sausage”. I ordered the Tonga Toast – "banana stuffed sourdough bread, rolled in cinnamon sugar and served with strawberry compote and ham”. DS11 ordered the Mickey Pancakes – which is one large pancake and 2 small ones, making the shape of a Mickey head! With that came his choice of meat, but he asked if he could have eggs instead. DS9 ordered the Minnie's French Toast, which came with a side of meat. I think he chose ham and gave it to DH!

Everything was very good, just like last time. I think Kona is going to be an every time thing for us! :goodvibes

The kids loved our waitress so much they asked her if she would get in a picture with them!

Mmmmm... Kona looks so good! I miss it there. We ordered the same things. I got Tonga Toast and DH got the Big Kahuna. :cool1:

It's hard to tell, but it looks like from the angle of your pictures that we were seated in the EXACT same spot as you when we went for breakfast in September. Right across from the check in booth? Or am I crazy? :goodvibes

Kona looks great! My DD20 is going there with her friend and March when they stay at the Contemporary. I have never eaten there and I am so jealous! Great food pics!

I'm a little late.... but I just caught up with your trip report! I'm really enjoying it so far! You guys seem like you had an awesome trip! And your review on Kona made me really want to see if I can squeeze it in to a future trip. But I don't know if it'll make the next one. :( But those tonga toast and macadamia nut pancake breakfasts are going to be necessary sooner or later :wizard:

Thanks for sharing your story with us! I'm loving it so far and I can't wait to read more!

What a lovely view! I bet with this white stuff we are all seeing, that's a sight you wish you were seeing now. :) I've eaten at Kona once too for breakfast and agree, it was very yummy. I love the fresh pineapple they have. Yum!

How much snow do you have now on the ground? Our local news channel (WHAG, Hagerstown, MD) said that the PA mountains west of us were going to get an additional 10 to 15" of snow on top of the snow that was already on the ground from last week. We haven't heard from our WV family yet, but last year they had snow up to the second story of their homes and I am hoping that this year isn't going to match that.

Love looking at your warm sunny pictures and still looking to see if we show up in any of your pictures.

I'm going to have to talk dh into a Kona breakfast next time -- your pics were great.

Mmmm......that food looks yummy! I really have to try Tonga Toast one day! The picture of your DS9 holding his plate - that's a future Dis'er if I ever saw one - plate in one hand, camera in the other. What a cute pic of your boys with your waitress!

So....I believe that's two 5 out of 5's in a row! :woohoo:

Kona looks so yummy, we have never gone there DH never liked traveling to other resorts much for meals especially breakfast, ADR's in the parks were fine we have done Chef Mickeys's, CRT and CP and DHS when it was MGM use to have a great Aladden Buffet Breakfast, but mostly we always did breakfast at the resort we stayed at. This next trip Kona is definately on the list, I already warned DH we have a lot of places at the monorail resorts we have never tried and I will be making ADR's at them all :rotfl:

Cute pic of your DS's with the waitress at Kona. I can not get over how little your DS's seem to eat, mine were such piggies, even when they were same ages as your boys. I am sure that will end soon when they become teens and they will be eating you out of house and home

Thinking of You and all your snow, our snow from last week all melted but awoke to about an inch this morning, I think it is suppose to continue off and on into tomorrow and they are saying we are in for a bigger storm Sunday.

The Tonga Toast is the best, isn't it? :cloud9: I don't know how DH eats all that food that comes with the Big Kahuna. :faint:

Yep, we were right across from the check in!

I hope you can squeeze in Kona. It's definitely worth it! :thumbsup2

Yes, I am sure missing that view right about now!! Although I don't think it is all that warm down there right now. :upsidedow

I'm not sure how much snow we have. . . Most of it from last week melted this past weekend when it got up around 40 and rained. I'd say we have about a foot or so. Nothing major. It's just the drifts that are making it bad. The wind is terrible. The high today is supposed to be 12 and the high for the 'feels like' temp is supposed to be 0. Yep, zero. :faint: And we are still under the storm advisory until sometime tomorrow morning I think. It's going to be a long winter.

We are under a 2 hour delay for school. I have to work today. I'm hoping for a cancellation! I just don't want to go out in this cold!! :cold:

I hope you find yourself in one of our pics!! That would be so funny!

You have to try the Tonga Toast the next time you get to WDW!!! ::yes::

Yes, my kids are true DISers!! They don't even start to eat before I take pictures! And usually they are taking some of their own. :rotfl:

Yep, I do believe that is two 5 out of 5's in a row!! :thumbsup2

We love going to the other resorts to eat. It give us a chance to check out all the resorts!! We used to do our breakfast ADR's (we usually only do 1 or 2 per trip) at 7:30-8:00am, but we started doing them around 10:00 lately and it's much better. No need to get up super early the travel to another resort, and I really enjoy it more when it's closer to lunch time. I normally don't eat breakfast, so I'm used to not eating until lunch.

I know, the kids still aren't very big eaters. :confused3 I keep thinking one of these days they will start to change the way they eat. DS11 is starting to eat more, and he is getting taller, but not any fatter. He is the skinniest kid ever!

Thanks for thinking of us during this nasty storm. We are fine, as long as this terrible wind doesn't cause our power to go out. I saw on the news that lots of people are without power. I feel so bad for them. :sad2:

Gooooood Morning!

Thank you so very much for posting this- I didn't get to see it yesterday and this morning it was a pleasure reading all about one of my favorite restaurants on property. :goodvibes I still want to try the Tonga toast- but I think I am going to make MC order it next time instead b/c I just cannot drag myself away from the dang macadamia pancakes.:lmao:

Thanks for the wonderful update! Now I'm hungry.
I can't wait to see more pics of the Poly.:lovestruc

You really need to check out DTD some more!! :thumbsup2 For as much as you like to shop I would think you would spend several days there! :rotfl: Maybe you just need someone to show you around! ;)

::yes::

I've seen that video of the dome about 732 times now. It's just ridiculous. They still don't know if they're going to be able to fix it for next Monday night's game. It's looking like we may get a couple more inches mid-week. Oh boy.

Oh, I could SO go for that breakfast right now!!! My toast did not compare.
I'm dying here - cold and hungry and trapped in an office with no windows (although who wants to look at 4 foot snow piles?). I'm going back to look at your pictures again!

I had 4 pages to catch up on and all I remember reading about Tonga Toast. Once I read those words I forgot all about everything else. :goodvibes

Oh now I remember...I had no idea there is a Harley store in DTD. DH would love it!
