I can finally make a budget

DH got laid off in April and was a big shock to us. Emotionally, I was so drained. He did side jobs (auto repair) for the past couple of months but that was so tough (past midnight and all weekend) and till we paid for parts/supplies and an accountant, we weren't making much of a profit. Guess we could be thankful that we weren't behind.

These past few months put such a strain on us. Me not having DH around and DH working his butt of for us and to pay the bills without EVER complaining. When I got upset that a new bill came up, he would tell me not to worry, it was only money and he'd schedule another side job.

Well, today he started a new job as Assistant Manger for a collision center. I'm so thrilled. He always wanted to work in the office portion writing up estimates. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is what God was holding out for him, like when one door shuts, another one opens... It has it's pros and cons.

Pros:
* a better schedule so he can actually come home
* a monthly bonus
* office work - so he is not painting cars so much (better for his health)
* he wanted to start doing/writing estimates more

Cons:
* he's salary, so he'd have no overtime pay (hoping the bonus will make up for that)
* slight pay cut from his previous job
* not sure how he will handle not getting down and dirty as he loves what he did and is darn good at it

I guess this is his chance to see how he likes the office part of it. It's what he always wanted to try and that's why he got his appraisers license. He must have made a good impression as well because once he was done this 1 1/'2 long test (don't know if they were asking about our sex life or what), they had him meet the BIG boss and he was hired an hour later. Anyway, I can relate to other on this board who mentioned getting laid off or hours getting cut back. It truly hurts and takes it's toll on you. Good luck to others in the same situation...

Congrats to your DH on his new job! Hope things settle down for your family. I know how stressful it is when someone's out of work--no fun. :rolleyes1

Congratulations to your DH and good luck on your budget. And don't worry, Mine used to be a mechanic too- and tho he doesn't work on cars anymore, he still finds plenty of opportunities to get up to his elbows in grease and grime! :flower:

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm sure that with family & friends, he'll still have other cars to work on. He also has one himself that he hasn't had a chance to work on in years.

Actually, he just called me at work while I'm typing this. He said it's a lot of work but going good.

Heck, he should be use to the lot of work part!!! That's the story of his life...
