I can do without housekeeping, can you?

I must be in the minority here, but I really don't care to have housekeeping come into my room, especially if I'm only there a few days. I would only expect clean sheets if the kids had an accident or sickness. I don't change mine at home any more than once a week. If the beds don't get made, well..they don't..I'm on vacation.

I also don't like the fact that a stranger is in my room looking at my belongings, yes, they are Disney employees, but they are human, things do get stolen.

So...I always refuse housekeeping and keep my room clean myself.

How many feel the way I do? It's okay if you don't, not looking to rifle any feather dusters ;)

I never want Mousekeeping either. I am sure lots of people want to come home after a long day to a fresh room...but I just do it myself.
1. It helps me find that wayward shoe or room key.
2. I can't think or plan well in a mess.
3. Keeping the kids in a routine with chores keeps them on track for getting ready in the morn!

We're DVC and we get a full cleaning only once a week. We get Trash & Towels on day 4. I've found I don't miss daily housekeeping AT ALL.

We make the beds and do a basic pick-up every day. I throw a load of laundry (with towels) in the W/D when we leave for the park or at night. Very easy. It's no big deal. And I don't have to worry about vacationing around the houskeeping schedule. There's even a vacuum if I want to make a fast "crumb pass" over the floor. (NOT that I do this a lot.)

We don't let the housekeepers in either, we make the bed ourselves, grab some fresh towels off her cart, leave the dirty on the cart/or floor near the cart and we are good to go.

I agree. We leave the privacy tag on our door most of the days. It's just something about someone being in our room that I don't like. If our trash fills up or if the room needs some attention after 4 or 5 days we'll let Mousekeeping do their thing, but other than that we usually skip it.

And now that we're DVC members we don't miss anything.

Do you just leave your "do not disturb" sign up? Or do you actually notify the front desk that you would prefer no housekeeping? I'm not a big fan of the housekeeping, either, but I don't have anything anyone would want to steal so I usually just let them come in! Plus, maybe some day I'll get a towel animal! :dog2:

I LOVE housekeeping! That's one of my main reasons for going on vacation, a chance to have someone clean up besides me. :rotfl:

We almost make the bed anyway. But I do like lots of fresh towels and the bathroom being cleaned, and the carpet vacuumed. And I prefer the sheets be changed every day when I am on vacation, just a luxury that I enjoy. It is true, though, that I lose some freedom when I know somebody will be coming in. I straighten up more than I would if we didn't have somebody coming in.

I love coming back to a nice clean made up room with clean towels everyday. I usually don't leave anything in the room worth stealing except souvenirs. The majority of people are honest. The mousekeeper can go through anything of mine she wants. She'll be bored to tears! :teeth:

Oh yeah!!! I hear ya!!! :listen:

Nothing like coming back to a room thats been done....

We keep all of our stuff pretty neat ...just love the beds made oh yeah!!!!!

:goodvibes

Not me! When I go on vacation I don't want to cook or clean. I don't need to have the sheets changed daily but I do like the beds made, room vaccumed, bathroom cleaned and fresh sheets.

I look forward to this on vacation also.....clean made beds, clean towels, etc. I also do not do buffets because I am on vacation and don't like to have to fetch my own food, I liked to be served. :goodvibes

This summer we stayed in a cabin (not in WDW) and never had housekeeping except the one day they came in to change sheets. I didn't mind making beds and taking care of things myself, but they did bring us new towels every day, which I appreciated it. I need housekeeping for 2 things... new towels (we have 5 and can never hang them well enough to let them air dry, so we need new dry towels) and removing the trash. 5 people sure do make a LOT of trash...

I love having my room made up every day. Didn't bother me as much in the DVC villas cause they are bigger, but a fresh, made up room always seems bigger and more spacious.

I love fresh towels everyday (wasteful, I know). However, I don't believe they change the sheets everyday. I think I read somewhere that they only change them every 4 days (and obviously when you check out) or something like that. But I still enjoy having the bed made and the sheets tucked back in, since bottom sheet always seems to come undone.

We keep our room very neat but I still love having mousekeeping. Any valuables are put away so for something to be taken they'd really have to go out of their way to get to it.

It is so relaxing to open up your room door in the afternoon and have the AC on and the room freshened up.

Mousekeeping at POR AB was GREAT!!!! :flower:

I love mousekeeping. Love coming back to everything being cleaned. I could do with out it but why would I want to.

That's ok, as long as you don't complain about not getting any towel animals! :rotfl2:

I LOVE Housekeeping - well, mousekeeping in this case. I like coming back from a long day at the parks to a fresh smelling, clean room....it's a vacation, and we always intend to keep it that way. I understand some of the worrying about your belongings, but it's standard at all hotels to have housekeeping and people have it done every single day, in every hotel - so we take the risk - as do most people. I would never leave anything valuable out - like a lot of cash, jewelry or a camera - that's what the safe is for. But, as far as things that I buy in the parks, my clothes and little things, I don't worry about. Actually, it's funny when you buy stuffed animals in Disney because housekeeping (as you all probably know this) pose them. :teeth:

I trust the people in Disney the most - even though I know things can happen anywhere - I just never have had a bad experience - which I know from reading posts here does happen. So, I consider myself lucky.

What if there was a different rate for rooms if you did not have housekeeping? I think I could get my own towels and make my own bed if there was a substantial cost difference. Just a thought.

Part of why I love going away is to get a break from cleaning, cooking, and bed making. I make our beds every day as well as vacuum the house and wipe down the bathrooms and kitchen. To come back to a room where that's been done for me I love! I would never think about doing away with housekeeping anywhere.
