I can do this...right?

Congratulations!!! You are on the hook now!! Princess was my first half and it is the perfect first timer half. You will be amongst so many wonderful ladies all with the same goal... To finish!!!
171 dollars later, post that receipt on your bathroom mirror as a reminder that you will train and finish your race!!!

Excellent idea! I think I will print out my receipt and hang it on my mirror. :)

:cheer2: YOU CAN DO IT!!! :cheer2:

Make no mistake, you have to put the miles in, but just take it nice and easy. I'm a big fan of Galloway's walk/run training plan. The three days per week of running was perfect for my schedule.

We are here for you when you need more motivation! :grouphug:

What do you do on the days you're not doing the training plan?

Thanks for your encouragement! :grouphug:

Alright, got the calendar!

Good golly, you're doing the 30 day shred too?! :faint:

I'm so not worthy! :flower3:

Lol I'm a glutton for punishment!

Seriously though, I have lost 22 pounds since starting my journey and I have about 45 more to go. So I need to work out as much as possible and log my food. I also have restless leg syndrome and I have found that if I don't work out every day, I am in an incredible amount of pain at night. But since its not really great for newbies to run every day, I needed to find something else to do.

You can walk. Weight training and toning. Yoga.
Cycling is a great cross trainer for running.
One of the things DS16's coach does for cross training is having the boys play ultimate frisbee.

On my days I run, I also do lunges, squats, calf lifts, etc. I really push myself on those days so the days in between runs are really for rest. My body needs one day in between of doing nothing in order to recover and be stronger the next time I run. Find out what works for you and rock it!

Everyone's already said what I would say, so I'll just add my encouragement - YES, YOU CAN! :thumbsup2

I've done several half marathon, and on the rest days, I rested. That being said, if you want to cross train, go ahead and do something else. I've used both Jeff Galloway's plans as well as the plans in John Bingham's and Jenny Hadfield's "Marathoning for Mortals" It's a good book for encouragement even if you don't use their plan. Jeff Galloway also has a longer more gradual plan in his book "Half Marathon: You Can Do It". The previous edition is also very cheap on amazon.

LOL I pinned a bunch of Sparkle skirts and pants to my marathon board. I need to start stocking up as soon as I get some extra cash.

And the family is now coming with me so I had to book a second room.

I met the owners of sparkle skirts last Sunday lovely people She mentioned they would be making a longer skirt God I hope so If I were 30 lbs lighter and 30 years younger maybe the super uber short length but NOT me :rotfl: I ordered the one from amazon after someone somewhere on a thread or a PTR said they were longer and they were pleased with it I want to get the feel of doing all this in a skirt

I've got a condo booked about 2 miles away after the thought of driving from home (about 30 miles) was waking me up out of a sound sleep with the horror that I was stuck in a maze of closed roads :scared1:

Let the good times begin :thumbsup2

Oh a longer skirt does sound nice.
I'm pretty short so the current ones might be ok, but these poor 40 year old thighs do not look good in super short anything! LOL

I've been staring at the registration form for the princess 1/2 all day. I want to do it. I've been training (although its going slow). But I'm terrified that February is going to roll around and I'm going to feel like I just wasted $160 because I can't pull it off. It was supposed to be my 40th birthday gift to myself - proof that I could it and a trip to WDW...now I'm having all of these doubts. :(

You can do it! Having the race goal in front of you may help push you. Just get rid of the excuses. It's so easy to say you are tired from work or kids, that life got in the way of training. I saw it a lot last year leading up to PHM. Training is pretty much a choice, stop thinking about it and do it, and you'll do just fine. I registered last year without a day of training under my belt. With 3 young kids, school, illnesses, I work from home, I still made myself get out and train, no excuses. I did pretty well in my first half, and finished in decent time. I had so many doubts and was terrified of sweepers, but I did it.

I registered a few days ago! (I posted it earlier in the thread) I was afraid it would sell out! :) I'm terrified, but I'm gonna give it my best shot!

Thanks so much for the encouragement! I need all you wonderful ladies living near me so you can all pull me out of my house and make me run! ;)

You sound so much like me! 3 kids, school, illnesses blah blah blah! AND I'm terrified of sweepers!

Can I ask you if you ran or did intervals? Did you train for a certain time per mile? Did you do some kind of cross training on your off days?

Thanks for the encouragement! I need all of it that I can get!

I'm scared too, especially since I had a really bad run yesterday.

But, today is a new day. I took the day off and will shred tomorrow. Then a 30 minute run Tuesday and Thursday.

We have 250 days, we can do this!

My training wasn't very organized. I loosely followed the Galloway plan, 30-45 mins twice during the week and then a longer run on the weekends. I didn't train for pace, just went for distance, no matter how fast or how slow, just getting the distance during training done. It was my first half, first anything over a 10k, I just wanted to finish. I work on speed these days. I did do some cross training, but it was just Zumba once a week. I'd recommend a strength training session 1-2 times a week just because I ended up injured 3-4 weeks before PHM and I had to run it in a lot of pain. 2 months of physical therapy taught me that even though I could run a half marathon, my muscles were extremely weak.
I didn't do intervals, I ran the first 12 miles until my knee gave out, then I walked/jogged the rest of the race.

A friend has been posting on my PTR (well its like 100 PTRs all rolled into one :lmao:) step by step what we can expect from where the expo is to info re-parking and plenty of pictures if you're interested there is the link in my signature line his posts start back a few pages...warning there is a LOT of gabbing/planning that goes on over there about all other Dis related stuff ( and not so much Dis related stuff ) jump into the conversation OR disregard and just look for the posts by ED user name SunDial BUT I know its calming me down to see this (his posts start on page 27)
