I disagree. I think there is a third type of person that has not actually suffered but thinks others should. I think there are people that enjoy the sufferings of others and feel smug at their self-perceived superiority. I hate those people and think they are sadists.
There are Two Kinds of People:
Those who think, “I don’t want anyone to suffer like I did.”
And
Those who think, “I suffered, so why shouldn’t they?”
I like to think I'm the former and don't really like the latter.
Could there actually by 4 types? I'm the "type" that thinks people wouldn't have to suffer near as much as they do if only they were willing to learn from the experiences of others.
I think that's a good question. Majority probably jump to more extreme definitions of things like disease, death, abuse but there are also things that happen in life that one would consider suffering that another would not.Okay what is considered suffering?
Life throws curveballs but my suffering might not be yours.

No; exactly the opposite. Now granted, I'm not talking about tragic losses, catastrophic natural disasters or grave illnesses here, I'm talking about life-choices that cause people a lot of heartache. Have you ever watched someone you love barrel head-on into chaos of their own volition? Knowing they have the information and ability to "save" themselves? When they simply won't heed wise advice or take caution from having observed others making the exact same mistakes? I would love to save them from such unnecessary pain but time and time again I've grieved with and for people who simply refuse to learn anything except the hard way. That's just a variant of the type that thinks some others should suffer.
That type sounds smug to me. Like a deserved suffering.
So then you're quite content watching people suffer the consequences of their own actions - no matter how devestating?Exactly. That "free will" business is such a drag. If only the world would listen to the know-it-alls among us, we'd all be perfectly happy.
